Jesus had a way of keeping people guessing. His response to a situation was never what the pundits and the powerful thought it ought to be.
Where so many others might kiss up to the powerful and fish for favors, Jesus tore them a new one, and He did it on the regular.
Where others might hope to hit up the money changers for a nice donation, Jesus braided a whip and sent them scrambling.
He was fierce, but strangely, not with the people he was ‘supposed’ to be fierce with. A holy man was expected to rain holy hellfire on all ‘those’ people in the hoi polloi.
Even the disciples wanted to ‘call down fire from heaven’ at some Samaritans who were not receptive to His gospel in Luke 9:54.
But the reaction Jesus had to his generation’s great unwashed was not the Shock and Awe show of rage and fury the religious leaders would have wanted. It even baffled His own disciples.
