For team Biden, it wasn’t enough to trust the grey-faced media automatons to know their role was to circle the wagons to protect the Blue Team. They had to press their luck.
It backfired in a big way.
This play was even beneath the dignity of CNN.
Yes, you read that correctly. And that’s saying a lot.
The left has already been doing their best to look the American public in the eye and shovel absolute BS talking points to save Biden’s sorry carcass.
Charlie, I know you’re allergic to reading, so I’ll summarize this for you: They’ve got the goods. https://t.co/jhcpqZzF9k

But the White House Counsel’s office got too comfortable with their proximity to their allies in the press, and pushed their luck a little too far. And CNN outed them for it:
The White House plans to send a letter to top US news executives on Wednesday, urging them to intensify their scrutiny of House Republicans after Speaker Kevin McCarthy launched an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, despite having found no evidence of a crime.
“It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies,” Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House Counsel’s Office, wrote in the letter, according to a draft copy obtained by CNN.
The letter, which said an impeachment inquiry with no supporting evidence should “set off alarm bells for news organizations,” will be sent to executives helming the nation’s largest news organizations, including CNN, The New York Times, Fox News, the Associated Press, CBS News, and others, a White House official familiar with the matter said.
The correspondence comes one day after McCarthy announced that he had directed three House committees to begin an impeachment inquiry into Biden. House Republicans, most of whom have denied that disgraced former President Donald Trump committed any wrongdoing, have long sought to baselessly portray Biden as a corrupt, crime-ridden politician engaged in sinister activities.
While news organizations have published innumerable fact checks on the matter, they have also often failed to robustly call out the mis- and disinformation peddled by Republicans in their coverage, frustrating officials in the Biden White House who believe that the news media should be doing more to dispel lies that saturate the public discourse. — CNN
Imagine the shock at the White House when they discover that some journos still have a modicum of self-respect and don’t appreciate being treated as stenographers for Dem talking points.
This is not okay. The White House should not be encouraging, influencing or interfering in the editorial strategies of America's newsrooms, including CNN and the New York Times. https://t.co/Bk4IzrWZo6

Here’s some context to help round out the story. In contradiction to the WH claim that there is no evidence, we have Rep Scott Perry answering that exact question from a reporter. (Maybe it was fed to her?)
Perry’s answer was strong. The follow-up when he handed off to Dan Bishop was devastating.
Kennedy: — Speaker McCarthy for the sake of enacting political revenge —
Perry: — this — this isn’t about political revenge.
Kennedy: — for the impeachments of Donald Trump?
Perry: We have the bank accounts. We can see — ma’am, you can see that the homes that the Bidens own can’t be afforded on a congressional or a Senate salary. You also understand that it’s not normal for family members to receive millions of dollars from overseas interests. Those things aren’t normal. That’s not normal to have 20 shell companies. These things are not normal and it alludes to not only just widespread corruption, but money laundering, if not influence peddling itself. And we also have the President — the Vice President at the time — on record saying that the prosecutor was fired. “Well, son of a pitch, the prosecutor was fired.” Right? Because the prosecutor was going after the company that his son was working on. That’s what we have. If you can’t see that, if you’re that blind — look, I’ll turn it over to the attorneys in this.
.@RepDanBishop to Kennedy: I’m not sure how you know the American people think, but here’s what they might wonder. Actually, if you’re a federal prosecutor, you would be asking yourself, how can there not have been an indictment for a FARA violation against Hunter Biden? How can… pic.twitter.com/5bu3q1hWpi

Here's the pattern:
-Democrats make unprecedented rule change
-Republicans warn of consequences if Democrats lose
-Republicans operate under new rule
-Media dutifully screams hypocrisy
See: filibuster, committee ousters, and now impeachment https://t.co/tyAV4yRwMh

Even Axios has been shamed into reporting some part of the story against Biden:
Just before the 2020 election, Biden and his campaign said that Hunter hadn't made money from China and that Biden hadn't met one of Hunter's Ukrainian business associates during his vice presidency.
But recent sworn testimony suggests otherwise. https://t.co/7XGKd4LHYX
