Democrats Are Selling Dreams And Breaking Lives

It is impossible to be a political progressive these days.

It is impossible to be a political progressive these days. We were sold a dreamy vision of cheap justice, open borders, and a green utopia. Those short-term political decisions were not sustainable. It turns out that we have a name for things that sound good but don’t work. We call them failures. We’re lucky that failed cities speak louder than political press releases. Despite the glowing promises from Democrat politicians, we resent the reality of broken dreams and broken lives. Beyond the failed reality on the ground, Democrat policy decisions may not be politically survivable in the long term as their ideas are rejected by more and more of the general public.

The Road to Hell is Paved with Second Chances

Democrat states decided that they wouldn’t prosecute property crimes of less than $1000. They wouldn’t prosecute some robberies and some violent crimes. It turns out that you can’t have drug stores in your city once you pass those laws. You can’t have shoe stores, consumer electronics stores, or big box stores either. The jury is still out on whether grocery stores can stay open under those conditions or if they will be shoplifted to death.

It turns out that even high-end jewelers and department stores can’t stay open despite having intense security. Shoppers don’t want to be on the street when they can be robbed at every corner.

It was a Democrat policy not to put teenagers into jail for minor crimes. When “minor crimes” include theft and assault, then even our schools aren’t safe. Our children are at risk when we’ve made the world safe for violent thugs.

Are addiction and mental illness simply lifestyle choices, or do addicts and the mentally ill need to be taken off the streets? So far, we’re content to take them off the steps of city hall and put them under the local highway overpass. That isn’t really a solution. We need to have this political debate. We need to try different solutions and see which practices work the best.

From coast to coast, we’ve seen crime soar and citizens flee these failed blue cities and failed blue states. Democrats have turned once vibrant cities into new versions of Detroit. That isn’t what we thought we voted for at the ballot box. When we look at how people have packed their homes and uprooted their lives, we see that lots of us are voting against those Democrat policies with our feet.

Democrats Need Illegal Voters

Democrat policies were tailored for elite urban women. That is a shrinking voter base for several reasons. In addition to driving the middle class out of their blue cities, big city democrats don’t have a lot of children. Empty Democrat cities don’t deliver a lot of votes. Democrats deliberately threw open the borders so they could flood their broken cities with illegal immigrants. They then outlaw voter identification to cement their political control. It has been argued that there are not blue states, but only blue cities. When Democrats control a city, they can manufacture all the 2 AM votes they want. That effectively gives them political control of the entire state.

We have no idea who has crossed our borders. I guarantee that foreign military and intelligence agents are in our cities today. Given the events in Israel, ask yourself if open borders are a safe and sane solution.

Green Energy is the Road to Poverty

Democrats told us that we need to shut down our civilization and go green. We were told that wind and solar electrical plants were as useful as natural gas, nuclear, and hydropower. Democrats spent billions of dollars on demonstration plants.. that failed. An elementary school student knows that we want to heat our homes on cold winter nights when the wind doesn’t blow. We want to cool our homes on still summer evenings. We want to power our hospitals and our industry around the clock. A junior high school student can do the math that says there are not enough batteries in the world to make wind and solar reliable sources of energy. Now you know why there are so few new jobs as businesses close.

I’ve lived in a city without electrical power. (here, and here, and again here) Don’t do it, and certainly don’t do it on purpose.

This isn’t rocket science. Our industrial world has lifted more people out of poverty in the last 15 years than in all of human history combined. We did it by giving poor people reliable roads and reliable electricity. You have to be an elite Democrat in order to sacrifice a billion people’s lives on the altar of a green fantasy.

We need more speech, not less

We use our imagination to dream so that our bad ideas can die rather than us dying. We need more than pretty dreams so we put ideas to the test. Now we can argue about the results. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but only for a while. There were always voices of dissent to these Democrat policies. Those voices are becoming louder as the obvious evidence builds. Progressive politicians now demand censorship to hide their failures.

We need more open debate rather than less. It is true that we won’t change everyone’s mind. Some would rather live in a world of pretty dreams. We can change the minds of those who are willing to listen. Those who are deaf to reason have to live with their conscience for the rest of their lives.
