I Called and You Refused
What does God say about people who stiff-arm his invitation to grace?
The sad thing about the Church of the New Groove and happy-clappy never-offend Churchianity is that the theology it sprouts is more deeply rooted in Hollyweird than it is in Divine Writ.
When someone blows off an invitation to humble himself before the Most High God and accept the price paid in Divine blood to restore him in right relationship to the Author of Life itself and a life worthy of what we were created for, you can almost hear Little Orphan Annie singing in the background — Tomorrow, tomorrow, I’ll Love Ya Tomorrow, it’s only a day away.
But that’s a lie. You won’t REPENT ‘tomorrow’ any more than you will start that diet ‘tomorrow’, or start working out ‘tomorrow’ or a thousand other broken New Year’s resolutions that will all arrive on exactly the same day — tomorrow.
God isn’t fooled by any of that. The problem is we’ve got things backward.
We think we’re doing God some kind of a cosmic favor just by agreeing to be picked for his team… as if you or I is going to be that Franchise Player that God really needed to draft in order to turn the team around.
If you’re coming from that camp, and scoffing at His invite, you might want to crack open His word and see what He REALLY says about how long the window of that invitation really stays open.
It’s the kind of reality check that might make your blood run cold. You aren’t dealing with the kind of needy simpering begger you might THINK that you’ve got all figured our or tucked away in your pocket for when you are finally ‘ready’ to ‘get serious’.
Are you ready for this week’s dive into scripture?
Are you SURE…?
You’d better be. If you’re not careful, this kind of message just might change the direction of your life forever.
