African Cardinal Puts ‘Western Imperialism’ On Blast… But NOT The Kind You Think

This kicks the arrogant, moralizing activist class right in the nuts

There is a short list of favorite words the left loves to use in discrediting the West… imagine their horror when one of the Big ones is turned back against them.

The political left LOVES to invoke Africa when it suits their political purposes… especially when they can use allegations of ‘imperialism’ to discredit Western Civilization generally or America and the British Commonwealth in particular.

To hear them tell it, white Westerners are the devil. Black Africans, meanwhile, are the innocent victims whose complaint the West needs to hear.

How disorienting must it be for them to hear their own words thrown back in their faces?

When the Vatican put out a Declaration concerning the blessing of same-sex unions, known as the ‘Fiducia Supplicans‘ the African church did not react with the enthusiasm the West might have hoped.

Archbishop Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, of Congo responded to the Vatican with a letter explaining that Africa would be offering no such blessings to same-sex couples.

One of the most prominent cardinals in Africa believes the reason clergy on his continent adamantly opposed Pope Francis’ support for blessing homosexual couples is because they viewed it as a form of “Western imperialism.”

In an interview with French-language Catholic television channel KTO on Sunday, Congolese Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo explained that Fiducia Supplicans was perceived as “cultural colonization” because it called for “practices that are considered normal in the West (being) imposed on other peoples.”
[…] Ambongo is the president of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM). He is also the Archbishop of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. One of Francis’ closest advisers, Ambongo has served as a member of his Council of Cardinals “C-9” since October 2020.
[…] “We, the African bishops, do not consider it appropriate for Africa to bless homosexual unions or same-sex couples because, in our context, this would cause confusion and would be in direct contradiction to the cultural ethos of African communities,” the letter explained. “The constant teaching of the Church describes homosexual acts as ‘intrinsically disordered.’”

Among those who praised SECAM’s announcement was Guinean-born Cardinal Robert Sarah, former prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments. During the question-and-answer portion at a two-day symposium at the Catholic University of East Africa in Nairobi on February 23, Sarah said he was “very proud” that the African bishops have “completely” rejected the controversial document. — LifeSite

In the same interview, he complained that the announcement itself completely bypassed the usual steps associated with the usual process where a Synod would review any such innovation for approval.

The Pope himself seldom misses a chance to wag his finger at Americans for colonialism or other social ills, imagine having the unified leadership of African churches throw this agenda back in his face.

Maybe this interview, which came out earlier this month, will give the Western branch of the church something to chew on as we contemplate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.  And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 1 John 3

The Apostle John did not mince words about the moral implications of believing in Christ having a transformative effect on our lives.

Maybe leadership across all denominations should focus more on the transformation and less on the endlessly-evolving demands of political agitators.
