Jack Up Your Prayer Life

Prayer is a topic that makes people really uncomfortable -- until they understand it

If you want to see Christians in the West get REALLY quiet and awkward, ask them about their prayer life. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

When most of us get tripped up in our prayer life it’s because we’ve lost sight of our ‘why’ — or maybe we’ve never really understood it in the first place.

If you think it’s some kind of an obligation that you have to meet to keep God from being upset with you, it’s only a matter of time before you fail.

But what happens if you shift that perspective to start looking at prayer the way a powerlifter looks at meals when he’s in a bulking cycle?

Meaning: It’s not the thing that gets you results, but if you leave out that piece, that effort is going to be mostly wasted.

You might be surprised by some of the incredibly specific answers to prayer Doug and Rich are brining to this week’s show. It doesn’t have to be complicated either.

Even Jesus had to get alone and pray to get to where God had called him to go — do we really think WE have our little corner of the world locked down so perfectly that we can blow off that invitation to have a private audience with the Lord of All Creation?

While you’re at it, check out Doug’s book on a powerful kind of prayer you will NOT find mentioned in most how-to guides:

Psalms of War: Prayers That Literally Kick Ass is a collection, from the book of Psalms, regarding how David rolled in prayer. I bet you haven’t heard these read, prayed, or sung in church against our formidable enemies — and therein lies the Church’s problem. We’re not using the spiritual weapons God gave us to waylay the powers of darkness. It might be time to dust them off and offer ‘em up if you’re truly concerned about the state of Christ’s Church and of our nation.

Also included in this book, Psalms of War, are reproductions of the author’s original art from his Biblical Badass Series of oil paintings.

This is a great gift for the prayer warriors. Real. Raw. Relevant.
