Prayers & Proclamations

So, what exactly does a prayer life look like, and what changes happen as a result?

Ever notice how many Christians agree to the ideas that scripture calls true, yet live by the rules and expectations of our secular society?

It wasn’t always that way. There have been periods of Christian history where the body of Christ turns its face heavenward and prays to God with the kind of conviction and commitment that shook nations..

Not only did it shake nations but it made even notorious wicked tyrants tremble in apprehension:

“I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe.” — Mary Queen of Scots

Know of any tyrants who need a divine wake-up call to pull the rug out from under them? One or two?

It’s part of your heritage, not only as a Christian, but as an American, too: prayer was a big part of the foundation on which the American Experiment itself was first launched.

This is where the brain starts to check out and say ‘that’s nice, a thing happened long ago and far away. What about here and now?’

We’ve got an answer for that, too.

What, exactly, can that do in the life of Joe or Jane believer from Litaphart church in Nowheresville?

It can make all the difference in the world. Today’s show digs into it… right down to the granular level of our personal lives and the nasty habit we have of getting in our own way, both in prayer and in obedience more generally.

While you’re at it, here’s Doug’s latest book:

Lionhearted: Making Young Christian Males Rowdy Biblical Men

Dear young Christian male, this book you’re about to read is meant to challenge you to your very core. Its intent is not to make you feel warm and fuzzy. Some of the chapters will upset you greatly, especially if you’re a dandy who was raised with kid gloves by a helicopter mommy.

That said, in addition to the holy introspection contained herein, this book will also shoot adrenaline into your soul. It’ll push you to be a Godly risk taker and earth shaker. A veritable Rebel With A Cause just like the Captain of Our Salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you want a feel-good book that tickles your ears and morphs you into a little Christian popinjay, this tome ain’t for you. You should put this book down and walk away from it immediately. However, if, young man, if … your motto is to give God your utmost for His highest, and you wanna live a life worthy of Christ’s death, then this book will be grist for your mill.
