WINNING: Bragg Backpedals, Does ‘Not Oppose’ Delay To Trump Sentencing After SCOTUS Immunity Ruling

Here's a clue for why Dems are infuriated by the SCOTUS ruling on POTUS immunity

Dems may have done their gloating too quickly. Even the criminal conviction they thought they’d already scored against Trump may be quietly slipping away.

The DA has had to acknowledge the potential implications Monday’s SCOTUS ruling can have on the ridiculous conviction.

After Monday’s SCOTUS verdict in his favor, a brief was filed with Merchan asking to vacate the verdict and delay sentencing. At this stage of the trial, New York requires lawyers for both sides to weigh in on any motion.

In the DA’s response to Trump’s pre-filing motion, Bragg wrote:

“Although we believe defendant’s arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion.” — FoxNews

It must have nearly killed Bragg to write that. But how could he say otherwise?

Even Judge Merchan himself, who has ruled enthusiastically against Trump at almost every possible opportunity, could not possibly ignore the potential implications of a ruling handed down from the highest court in the land after the verdict had been delivered against him. Could he?

With the Supreme Court shining a light on this issue, there aren’t a lot of dark legal corners for Merchan to hide the ball in for this case.

Will this be enough to keep him honest? Or will he heed the call to double down against Trump implicit in Biden’s bellicose words against the Supreme Court last night?

The ball is now in Merchan’s court and the stakes couldn’t get much higher.

***UPDATE***
After publication, the date for Trump’s sentencing hearing was released.
