GOOD NEWS: The Kavanaugh-ing Of Pete Hegseth Will Fail
(If we can take GOP senators at their word, that is)
Lindsey Graham has a short memory. He’s forgotten his own outrage after the Kavanaugh hearing during much of the Biden years. But it seems like someone has jogged it for him.
The MAGA mandate is big, but it’s up against some stiff opposition. Status Quo is worth a LOT of money, and nobody riding that gravy train wants to see it end. That includes lobbyists and donors who hold a lot of power over politicians looking either to get re-elected, or to have a golden (platinum, maybe?) parachute waiting for them on the other side of ‘public service’.
A number of GOP Senators had begun to bend under the pressure of a smear campaign against Pete Hegseth. Notably, the smears came from anonymous names, at least three of which he had seen fired from their positions. On the other side, people were lining up to go on the record — name and all — in full-throated support of Pete Hegseth.
It looked as if the Alinsky tactics of personal destruction might be winning the day, as names of proposed ‘alternates’ were published in the news. Some of them significant. But both Trump and Hegseth were pressing forward. Here he is pledging to meet with Senators.
The next Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth: “I spoke to the President-elect this morning. He said keep going, keep fighting…
Why would I back down? I’ve always been a fighter. I’m here for the warfighters. This is personal & passionate for me.” 🔥

“Zero” Senate Republicans are privately opposing Pete Hegseth’s confirmation, sources told The Post on Wednesday, as the defense secretary-designee was making the rounds on Capitol Hill and defiantly proclaiming he will “never back down” in the face of widespread allegations of past misconduct.
“There are zero ‘nos’ right now,” one GOP source familiar with the matter said, ripping smears against the former Army combat infantryman in the press as “BS.”

There are reportedly six GOP Senators who have given (at best) tepid responses to his nomination in the past, including five identified by name: Lindsey Graham, Collins, Merkowski, Joni Ernst, John Cornyn.
Joni Ernst has published the following statement:
We are ‘assured’ that everyone is on board. In the cuthroat, backstabbing world of politics, that’s about as good as we’re going to get on some of these nominees.
But if they play the coward when we need them to stand strong… we WILL remember. And their turn will come.
