Macron’s Government Falls Just MONTHS After Slick Trick To Shaft The Right

Does anyone know the French phrase for pyrrhic victory?

Just months ago, Macron was laughing at how he and the hard left had found a way to hold onto power and cheat Le Pen out of a leadership victory. Now… his government has fallen and he’s facing pressure to resign.

So… what the heck happened over there?

The same thing that would happen here if MAGA and DOGE don’t get America back on track. They ran into a budget buzzsaw.

After snap elections held by Emmanuel Macron this summer, the new minority government is under pressure to steady the public finances from the EU and financial markets after warning that its budget deficit – the gap between spending and tax income – would exceed 6% of gross domestic product (GDP) this year.

The French Prime Minister used a mechanism in an attempt to push their budget through without parliamentary approval. The coalition government with the hard left was seen as too fragile to survive the contentious battles over budget priorities. The attempt triggered a no-confidence vote, in which both the left and the right voted to topple the current administration.

So, what happens next?

The current Prime Minister — Michel Barnier — has been forced to resign. Macron will have to appoint a new leader to replace him, who will either come from his own party or from the far-left.

But Macron’s got problems of his own. The hard-left he leaned on as an ally has turned on him.

France’s hard left is urging President Emmanuel Macron to resign and hold early presidential elections after lawmakers voted to oust the government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier.

Ironically, Le Pen is the one saying Macron should NOT resign.

Macron will have plenty of opportunity at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral to walk back some of the chirping he made at Trump’s expense when Biden took over.

Remember that old line again about letting your words be sweet? You may one day eat them.
