If the left’s goal was to make Pete Hegseth look like a consummate professional who could handle being sniped at by petulant children, they did a fantastic job.
Pete didn’t merely survive the left’s attempt to railroad him… he clowned his accusers. With so many great moments in that 4-hour struggle session they put him through,
While Republicans asked him questions about substance and policy — including questions about the nuclear triad, rebuilding the navy, or how he might encourage enlistment, they asked questions designed to generate a negative soundbite… including creepy probing timeline questions by Sen Kaine about his sex life and a past marriage.
He not only weathered the storm, he stood tall, defending his name, his faith, and his family in the midst of it including giving a name and face to the daughter Kaine was trying to leverage as an attack against him.
For example, here he is turning a Liz Warren attack sequence into a laugh line:

I’m sure she was very upset about the fact that the outgoing SecDef needed a Congressional waiver to ignore the fact that the job he had immediately before the cluster**** of his term in office was a position with Raytheon, wasn’t she?
Next up, we’ve got an interaction between Pete and Tom Cotton addressing issues raised by several crazed protesters who had disrupted the hearings in order to derail proceedings. Tom addressed the Israel/Hamas question and called out Code Pink as a CCP front group. Here’s that interaction.

Sen Markwayne Mullen stole the show and opened a can of whoop-ass by taking the left’s ‘do you still beat your wife’ questions about marital infidelity and alcohol consumption and turned them back on Pete’s accusers, calling them out as philanderers who have come to the house floor and voted while into

And as bonus content for a little comic relief… Senator Sheehy had Hegseth cracking up after Pete’s commonsense answer to how many genders there are.

They couldn’t lay a glove on this guy. Then Dems tried to slow-walk this into multiple hearings to drag out the confirmation process like they did in the first term. They failed.
If this is any indication of how the nominations are going to go, Trump’s nominees are going to be in good shape.
