Bill Maher Dishing On His White House Visit Will Make Bernie’s Head Explode
This monologue does NOT go where you think it will

Whatever you THINK Bill Maher would say about his Trump White House visit is almost certainly wrong… hear Bill tell it in his own words.
The best thing about this clip is that it will piss off at least SOME people on BOTH sides of the aisle. And the people who get upset are the exactly the ones we should want to see get upset… because they really don’t matter much anyway.
He isn’t kissing anyone’s ass, Trump’s included, but he isn’t doing the Jimmy Kimmel/Whoopi Goldberg ‘fainting couch’ act, either.
He’s still not a big fan of Trump’s politics, but what Bill DID say about Trump — even compared to Presidents like Bill Clinton or Barack Obama whose politics are more like his — show a very human side of him very unlike the persona you’ll see on the evening news.
The monologue opens with a fantastic bit. Bill’s producers put together a master list of all the insults Trump sent Bill’s way. He read that list to his audience. It was a doozy.
And what did he do with it? He showed that list to Trump… and asked him to sign it. He did.
That story set the tone for the rest of his monologue. And what Trump did to transform the ‘Blowjob room’ is perfectly on-brand.
Twelve days ago, I had dinner with President Trump, a dinner that my friend @KidRock set up because we share the belief that there has to be something better than hurling insults from 3000 miles away. pic.twitter.com/KE2t2eyBkI

Bill didn’t walk away sporting a MAGA cap, and Trump didn’t abandon his policies after one visit. But that wasn’t the point of the visit.
This was about two people, with very different ideas, sitting down and having a real conversation. The kind of real conversation most people in positions of power are not capable of… the kind where you actually listen to what the other guy is saying, instead of the habit so many have of listening only to prepare a rebuttal or defence.
There was eye contact, there was laughter. It was a real, human interaction.
Like Jimmy Fallon playing with Trump’s hair, this is one of those moments that might cut through the noise, where people who do not listen to Conservative pundits discover that there’s an actual person somewhere under the persona that is either ‘larger-than-life carnival barker’ on one hand, or ‘literally Hitler and will bite the heads off of puppies for fun’ on the other.
The reality, Bill found, was somewhere in between.
And if Bill was able to see that, some of his audience will, too.
THIS is how you grow the tent, and get heard by people who traditionally have no interest in the brand you represent.
Are you paying attention, Republicans?
