Texas Says ‘No Mas’ To Sharia Super-City… Criminal Charges Could Be Coming

Will they be able to block it?

Earlier this year, social media was buzzing about a giant super-city being built on 400 acres of land near Dallas Fort Worth that would specifically be built for Muslims and organize itself under Sharia Law.

As you can imagine, an ideology hostile to American law establishing a beachhead in Texas did not sit well with the citizens of the Great State of Texas. The politicians were listening.

A month ago, Abbott put out a press release saying they did not have the state permits necessary to proceed with construction. (It is unclear whether there was any intention of even asking the state for permission in building their mega project.)

Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) found that the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) and affiliated entities have not obtained the required authorizations or permits needed for construction and development of the proposed project. TCEQ sent a letter to EPIC and affiliated entities to notify them that any construction would be in violation of state law and ordered them to confirm that they have not engaged in any construction activities.

“The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that the group behind the proposed EPIC compound did not submit the required permits to begin construction,” said Governor Abbott. “They must confirm within seven days that they are immediately ceasing any construction of their illegal project or face the full weight of the law. The State of Texas will enforce its laws and protect our communities from unlawful actions or threats posed by EPIC or its affiliates.”

This week, he put out an update, in response to someone who had expressed concerns that it was mostly just bluster.

Attached to the post above is a video of the rendering the designers put together for the mega-project that was just blocked. That post also raises concerns about whether Texas will actually be stopping the project, since Sharia does not see itself as owing any allegiance to any ‘lesser’ political authority than Islam itself.

Here’s a look at the video.

Senator Cornyn has spoken out about it on his Senate page, announcing DOJ involvement in investigations.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) opening an investigation into the East Plano Islamic Center’s (EPIC) proposed Muslim community, EPIC City, in Josephine, Texas, in response to concerns he expressed to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon last month:

“I am grateful to Attorney General Bondi and the Department of Justice for hearing my concerns and opening an investigation into the proposed EPIC City development in North Texas,” said Sen. Cornyn. “Religious discrimination and Sharia Law have no place in the Lone Star State. Any violations of federal law must be swiftly prosecuted, and I know under the Trump administration, they will be.”

Those trying to build it maintain that they are loyal American citizens and doing nothing wrong.
