Did DeSantis Just Find Peaceful Path Forward For The Trump/Musk Divide?
Trump's big bill triggered a big blowup between the billionaire bros at the heart of MAGA 2025

Both billionaires had a bold plan of what absolutely HAD to happen to save America. It just happened that those plans were mutually exclusive. At least, for now.
Ironically, if we had a few more seats in the House and Senate, we could have chased both. But with the razor-thin margin and Schumer’s dems blocking that 60 vote threshold, a decision had to be made.
The Problem
Trump’s concerns, not surprisingly, were on the immediate economy and making good on the promises of reversing the damage wreaked by Biden’s open border madness. Credit where it’s due, despite the endless sniping he’s getting from lower courts exceeding their authority, he’s managed to deliver on much of that agenda.
Had he failed to deliver on that promise, the tax cuts he introduced in his first term would have lapsed, triggering one of the biggest tax hikes in history, and probably a recession, practically guaranteeing Hakeem Jeffries would have the gavel in 2026 where the loopiest of Democrat priorities would again take center stage… and we’d be right back to the impeachment circus.
Musk, on the other hand, is looking big-picture, and has been for a long time. He sees the debt bomb devouoring everything the government takes in. That’s why he was so enthusiastic about electing Trump, so he could take lead on efforts to DOGE the swamp. He made some great progress… but the big bill doesn’t reflect those cuts. He’s frustrated and sees that as a ‘uniparty’ issue.
In reality, getting stuff done in Washington, under the rules that govern legislating — including some arcane and controversial ones introduced by the parliamentarian in the Senate — moving fast and breaking things just isn’t as easily accomplished as it might be in Silicon Valley.
The stakes
Elon hasn’t just taken his toys and gone home over this fight, he is taking steps to establish a rival political party to move his own vision of America forward.
Many of us on the right have suggested he consult history to see just how badly that has backfired in the past — producing the exact opposite of the result he hopes to accomplish.
The example so many point to is Ross Perot paving a way for William Jefferson Clinton to become president and do significant harm to the entire political culture of DC, supercharging the game of money and power politics, with more than a little self-serving corruption alleged by several who have studied the issue.
A far more damaging example would be the damage wreaked on American society and culture once President Wilson put his radical and anti-Constitutional personal stamp on the political culture of America. His time in office, and his many rights abuses and other horrible precedents would not have been possible but for a 3rd party candidate splitting the vote.
The Solution
No less than Ron DeSantis has suggested a path forward where, instead of playing high-stakes poker with America, he might direct his considerable resources in a different direction that just might have a path forward to accomplish the very goals for which Elon has shown such passionate support.

Ron DeSantis suggests @ElonMusk put his resources, instead of a new political party and a few Congress candidates, toward getting up to 34 State Legislatures ratifying a balanced budget amendment to call a convention if he wants the most impact on reining in… pic.twitter.com/YzfbZKzSPa

He pointed to the Article 5 — Convention of States, which is already a movement underway to accomplish some of what Elon is hoping to accomplish, leveraging provisions in the Constitution (Article 5, obviously) in a path forward that was championed by Mark Levin in his ‘Liberty Amendments’ book.
