Despite Criticism From the Move, President Trump Has More Than Enough Reasoning For Federal Policing In Washington, D.C.

Well, that didn’t take long, did it?

Just a couple of days after President Donald Trump announced he would proceed with federal policing in Washington, D.C., online critics are coming out in droves, insisting that the move is more about instilling fear than pursuing justice.

MSNBC probably had one of the most damning pieces published, with author Melissa Wasser noting, “The aim is clear: Make fear the norm. If we don’t challenge it, the playbook will be used again and again.”

This isn’t about fear.

Fear was already in place for years now. And that fear settled in to the point that several big cities have fallen to crime.

That fear began with previous President Joe Biden’s relaxed border policies, which allowed hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to waltz into our country unchecked. This included a large number of gang members and criminals, determined to prey upon the very citizens that Biden was swore to protect.

That’s not all. Fear was also a playing factor with the whole “defund the police” movement that started years ago. Democratic leaders – alongside Biden at the time – were drumming up the fact that if something wasn’t done with the men and women in blue, then we would see more repeat instances like we saw with George Floyd. Which, by the way, is absolutely ridiculous.

Despite that, the leaders proceeded anyway, gutting police budgets and forcing thousands of officers to leave their post, either out of sheer exhaustion or volunteer retirement. As a result, cities like New York, Portland, Seattle and others have fallen apart, with criminals doing whatever they please.

But sure, Trump’s the fearmonger here, right, Melissa?

Let’s just look at the bigger picture here.

Even though the assault of a former Department of Government Efficiency employee in an attempted carjacking pushed the situation into overdrive, Washington, D.C. has been teetering on the edge of chaos for some time. Along with homeless on the streets, we’ve seen incidents like Congressional interns and Israeli Embassy members being shot dead, along with smaller neighborhoods, like Navy Yard, seeing activities like assaults and car thefts. It’s been building for some time, and Trump knows it.

And he’s not the only one. Speaking with Fox News, National Fraternal Order of Police President Joe Gamaldi explained why Trump’s moves aren’t just necessary, but also welcome.

“(The city’s) average homicide rate has doubled in the last 10 years,” he explained. “They used to average less than 100 homicides. Now they average about 200.” And it’s not a matter of blowing smoke, either. The city’s own information backs up these statistics, despite what the Mayor, Muriel Bowser, previously stated.

“And it’s because you have a radical element on that city council that has defunded their police. They have embraced revolving door criminal justice policies. And frankly, they treated the hardworking men and women of law enforcement in that town like crap. So, of course, they need help. You have to do something, otherwise it’s going to get out of control.”

Gamaldi isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. We’ve seen this in every state following what took place with “defund the police.” And despite their cities deteriorating from their former glory, these leaders still believe the best choice is to pour funding into other departments, rather than empowering police officers to do their jobs. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

So Trump had to act. Not out of fear. But out of retaliation for the fear that was already there.

The city wasn’t going to govern itself based on Bowser’s lazy policies, or her insistence that the city wasn’t experiencing a spike in crime. (Again, the city’s stats don’t lie.)

Please take heart, folks. This isn’t a power move on Trump’s part. It’s a step on how we can take our country back from the criminal element. And I can only hope that other cities follow suit, empowering their police departments with the budgets necessary to get the job done.
