Independent Agencies, Boards, Commissions, Etc. Contribute To The National Debt

There are over one hundred independent agencies, boards, commissions, etc. within the federal government.

That is way too many.

Some of them, such as the Federal Election Commission and the Legal Services Corporation, can be eliminated. Others, such as AMTRAK and the Postal Service, can be privatized.

Yet others can be placed under Executive Departments. The following provides more details.

• The Department of Agriculture can acquire the Farm Credit Administration.
• The Department of Commerce can acquire the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Consumer Product Safety Commission, Federal Communications Commission, Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, Federal Trade Commission, National Credit Union Administration, Securities and Exchange Commission, and the United States Trade Commission.
• The Department of Health & Human Services can acquire the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board), Chemical Safety Board, Joint Fire Science Program, National Council on Disability, and the National Interagency Fire Center.
• The Department of Housing & Urban Development can acquire the Appalachian Regional Commission, Election Assistance Commission, Federal Housing Finance Agency
• The Department of Justice can acquire the Commission on Civil Rights, Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, National Indian Gaming Commission, Privacy & Civil Liberties Oversight Board, and the State Justice Institute.
• The Department of Labor can acquire the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission, National Mediation Board, National Labor Relations Board, Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, and the Railroad Retirement Board.
• The Department of State can acquire the Commission on International Religious Freedom, Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission), and the United States Institute of Peace.
• The Department of the Interior can acquire the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, American Battle Monuments Commission, Arctic Research Commission, Delaware River Basin Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Interagency Committee for the Management of Noxious and Exotic Weeds, Marine Mammal
  Commission, Mississippi River Commission, National Archives and Records Administration, National Constitution Center, National Park Foundation, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board, Susquehanna River Basin Commission, and the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad.
• The Department of Transportation can acquire the Federal Maritime Commission, National Transportation Safety Board, and the Surface Transportation Board.
• The Department of the Treasury can acquire the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel.
• The Department of War can acquire the Armed Services Retirement Home, Defense Nuclear Facilities Board, and the Selective Service System.

Such changes can reduce the national debt.
