Cali Takes Big Step Forward Toward Restoring Confidence In Election Integrity
Voter id question will (probably) be on the ballot in the next election

Californian activists have just crossed the million-vote mark for signatures to put a Voter Id initiative on the ballot in California for 2026.
ONE MILLION signatures—in just ninety days.
But we aren’t done yet. Help us collect 200,000 more signatures by February 1st! Go to https://t.co/EqWp4tWrKt to sign. pic.twitter.com/73xtkpdyJT— Carl DeMaio (@carldemaio) January 6, 2026
With California’s habit of actively disqualifying thousands of signatures on initiatives that conflict with the left’s narrative, they want to bump that number up with a cushion of another 200k signatures.
That’s the ‘news’.
Here’s some ‘opinion’.
Isn’t that little habit of disqualifying signatures in initiatives like this one or recall petitions, while opposing initiatives that make voting itself more secure a perfect microcosm of the hypocrisy we’re so used to seeing on these issues?
The most cynical explanation of what’s going on here? Conservatives want to know their vote counts. Dems want to see the right team win. It’s not like we have no precedent of them saying so themselves. Way back in 2018, they were openly speculating a future in which blue-team policies could be forced down the throats of red-team voters nationwide. Whether they wanted them or not.
Whether that sounds like the language of people who want to ‘save democracy’ or of authoritarians, we’ll leave to the judgment of our readers. But ClashDaily covered a story in which top-tier players from Silicon Valley were proposing exactly the dream of having all of politics rolled into a one-party state here: Leftists Want A ‘New Civil War’ – This Post Is Disturbing
This image we ran of their one-party state ambitions also happens to be the same one they supplied with their story. Pay particular attention to the color break and the time stamps.

But the GOP is ‘dangerously authoritarian’.
Riiiiiight.
Newsome’s push to deliberately gerrymander almost 40% of their voters into the silence of political oblivion has served to underscore the lengths to which the left has been willing to take and hold power.
There have been years-long ongoing efforts of groups like Tom Fitton’s Democracy Watch to seek court enforcement of the requirements of jurisdictions like California to comply with legal obligations of purging voter lists of persons who no longer meet voting requirements, and demonstrate transparency on their efforts to do the same. They fight like hell whenever measures like this come up.
Just like they do anytime the political right announces an initiative that makes it ‘easy to vote but hard to cheat’. Since the one-voice-one-vote system is the very lifeblood of representative democracy, and we have ample evidence of political machines here and elsewhere exploiting loopholes in the system in times past, it seems eminently reasonable to make sure that real votes aren’t diluted by bogus ones so that the will of the people can accurately be determined.
Of course, minorities in the real world have no problem getting id that would let them vote. The citizens who have a constitutional right to participate in elections, that is.
We’ve also uncovered various Motor-voter scenarios (like one reported this week) where non-citizens have been improperly added to voting rolls.
Is that ‘harmless’? No, it isn’t. In elections where we’ve seen a dozen or fewer voters decide who will go on to represent their interests at the local, state, or federal level, every illicit vote in the system is a lie that defrauds the rights of the American voter.
And if cynical leftists think that’s no big deal, they need only turn their eyes abroad to countries where angry populations run riot and stage coups (Iran is currently walking that knife’s edge) because elites are not responsive to the will of the people.
Ballots are an innovation offering the non-violent answer to civil war bullets. When people lose faith in the ballots, or worse, when those in power create a one-party state that replaces the will of the people with an outside agenda written by others?
A quick look at global upheaval elsewhere reminds us what all-too easily happens when desperate voices go unheard.
