Critics Clown Themselves Just Before Trump Delivers On His ‘Greenland’ Mission In Davos

There’s a reason ClashDaily has kept our powder dry on all the drama around Greenland this year. Unlike some of his strategies (like Tariffs) whose logic we can more or less follow, we knew enough to remain silent about something we didn’t quite understand.

The logic of national security and navigable oceans for the US Navy angle made sense. So did the missile defense considerations. Even the race to stay one step ahead of China in locking down minerals that will be mission-critical to keeping our supply chains open made sense. But it was difficult to match any of that with the bluster.

We saw folks like Fetterman give assurances that Greenland was hardly a new conversation from the American perspective, and not absurd, and had sense enough not to believe that Trump was planning to put boots on the ground in an ‘invasion’ of Greenland. Like Trump, Fetterman was open to acquiring Greenland so long as it was achieved by means short of military force.

The Trump-deranged media took the bait HARD, pouring their authoritarian assumptions into Trump’s motivations, and pressed him on use of military force. Trump deliberately kept them guessing.

What did this accomplish? It got EVERYONE talking about Greenland. Going all the way back to his ‘Covefe’ and ‘stable genius’ tweets, we’ve dubbed that his lightning-rod tactic, of forcing the public to pay attention to something he wants discussed.

Everyone Reacted

The funniest thing about the unfolding ‘crisis’ in Greenland is watching the ‘experts’ over-react to it.

Europe sent a hilariously tiny number of troops over to ‘defend’ Greenland. And quickly recalled them when Trump warned about punitive tariffs. World leaders rattled their sabres in enraged response to his outrageous threats against European allies.

Closer to home, folks like Ted Lieu took a run at the title for most ridiculous elected Dem in the country with pronouncements like this one:

“If any military member, from the generals on down, uses force against Greenland without congressional authorization, they’re following illegal orders.”

That’s a warning to Trump and a warning to the Pentagon.

Of course, alarmism like that only augmented the urgency of his audience in Davos to find out what Trump was REALLY up to. When it came time to address Davos, Trump even teased the topic a little, asking if he should say something about Greenland, acknowledging how disappointed people would be if they left with that question unanswered. But when he started talking, he didn’t make the outrageous demands they were expecting.

Instead, he made a case from both history, and current trends among world powers that Greenland would need protecting from the countries like China and Russia who (with Hong Kong and Ukraine) have shown they don’t care if local populations object to being gobbled up by and subjugated to powerful neighbours. Even now Xi is licking his chops at ‘reunifying’ a territory that for generations has successfully resisted the conquering army of China’s communist revolution. And Russia is said to dream of reviving the Soviet Empire.

After the world had clutched its pearls for however long this question has been lingering, it took just a few hours once Trump made his case in person before we had a response. As it turns out, they were listening intently.

Trump had this to say about it:

“It gets us everything we needed to get.” In other words, after all the hype and hand-wringing this entire process fell neatly within the scope of a negotiation process, sorta like what he describes in his own book, Art of the Deal?

Gee, you don’t say? Imagine that.

NATO put out its own statement to the same effect.

It gets better. Nato’s leader didn’t just agree with Trump, he made Trump’s case FOR him in a panel discussion.

Once again, the prognosticators who assume the worst were proven wrong. And those of us who knew to keep our mouths shut until the story played itself out get the last laugh.

There’s a lesson in there somewhere.
