Here’s a bad news/good news message for all the dads out there.
The ‘bad news’ some dads really don’t want to hear is that there is no ‘expert’ they can call on to do the job of raising their kids in what King Jimmy called the fear and admonition of the LORD.
There’s no youth pastor, Christian school, video series or anything else out there to whom you can delegate your job and privilege of being dad and mentor to your kids. For some of you, that’s terrifying news.
But for those with ears to hear, it’s also good news. It means God has given you — yes, YOU — everything you need to fulfil that role for your kids. Will you need to build up your own spiritual life to fulfill that role? You had better believe it. Will you wear out your carpet in prayer? Count on it. Will you be asked questions that take you entirely out of your depth and comfort? One HUNDRED percent. Will you face situations where you have to trust God to lead you forward down paths whose end you cannot see? Uh-huh.
And all of that is part of the process, and the privilege, of fully embracing what it means to be a dad.
