PRAYER IN CONGRESS: Tulsi Reminds Us What The Founding Fathers Did On May 17, 1776

How strange to see that Biden, hailed as some kind of super-Catholic at his inauguration weaponized government against Christians, but the supposedly evil Trump administration keeps pointing us back toward God?

It’s probably a good rule of thumb not to look to a politician for religious guidance any more than you would look to your dentist to rebuild the engine of your car. There may be a few out there who now what they’re doing, but they are hardly a transferrable skill set. Particularly in an era that fashions itself as being ‘Post-Christian’.

Tulsi Gabbard, for example, was taught two very dissimilar (and ultimately incompatible) religious traditions. Christianity and Hinduism.

She would be another in the long list of Politicians (including our current president) who should NOT be looked to for religious guidance. That doesn’t mean they should be ignored when they bring the great moments of faith and piety shown by the Founders and Framers to our recollection.

This Sunday past marked 250 years from the day that Congress set aside for prayer as the nation prepared to take a stand for its own independence.

The greater point about bringing ourselves before God (even if she’s not yet properly nailed down to WHOM we will be directing those prayers) is a point we should expect our Christian leaders to be making, not just in a political context, but in our Churches, home groups and other gatherings.

We sometimes laugh at the story of Balaam being chastised by the ass he was ridng.

But we’ve got A billionaire Playboy fighting for religious freedom at the national and international level and a religious syncretist reminding Christians of the importance to undergird the nation in prayer.

At least Balaam has the excuse of being pagan.

What’s the Church’s excuse for needing to see the image of themselves and what they SHOULD be doing reflected in such imperfect mirrors?
