Do You Boast In God Or Government?
Christ warned us about our inability to serve two masters.

Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God. – Ps.20:7.
In David’s day, chariots and horses represented military might, national security, wealth, and worldly power. Nations trusted in their armies, weapons, and superior resources to guarantee victory. David declared that his ultimate confidence was not in the strength of Israel’s military but in the sovereign power of Almighty God.
In our context, chariots and horses represent the things people trust to provide security, success, and deliverance: y’know … politicians, presidents, political parties, military superiority, bank accounts, technology, influential connections, and personal achievements.
None of these things is necessarily evil. The problem arises when we place our ultimate trust in them rather than God.
Psalm 20:7 reminds Christians that our confidence must never rest in the shifting sands of human power. Politicians fail. Economies collapse. Armies lose. Governments crumble. Human strength eventually runs out.
But God never does.
The Christian’s ultimate security isn’t found in who’s sitting in the White House, how much money is in the bank, or how powerful our nation becomes. Our confidence rests in the Lord, who rules over kings, kingdoms, and history itself.
Use the horses. Ride in the chariots. But never confuse the tools God provides with the God who provides them.
