A few days after the election, Eva Longoria, staunch leftist, was praising the voting block of Latina women who came out to vote for the Biden/Harris ticket, and in doing so, she did not pay proper deference to black women and people became very, very upset.
Actress Eva Longoria has apologized for and clarified controversial remarks she made during an MSNBC interview after many accused her of downplaying the pivotal role of Black women in President-elect Joe Biden’s election win.
U.S. Latinas are the “real heroines” of the 2020 election victory of Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris, Democratic activist Longoria said on cable television late Sunday, in a fragment of a sentence that seemed to play into the hot-button notion that Black women were being erased for their contributions to the Biden victory.

Can I just say here that turning on an accent to use one word like Longoria does to say “Latina” here is just incredibly off-putting? It’s like the way that Obama used to say “Pakistan.” Remember that? “Pah-khi-stahn.” It just comes across as completely fake and pandering. My family is Jamaican and I don’t say “Juh-may-can” every time I say the word. That’s silly. Enough of my little rant…
Preliminary exit-poll data indicate that more than 90% of Black female voters cast their ballots for Biden, while about 70% of Latina voters backed the former vice president. The results highlighted fretting among Democrats about support for Trump among Latinos.
Longoria’s statement sounded to some as though it sidelined the enormous organizing push by figures like Stacey Abrams in Georgia to get more Black voters to the polls. Georgia broke late for Biden in the still-to-be-certified vote tallies, flipping a state Trump won in 2016.

Rosa Clement, an independent journalist that the L.A. Times notes “became the first Black Puerto Rican vice presidential candidate when she ran alongside Rep. Cynthia McKinney for the Green Party in 2008,” recorded a 25-minute video on how racist Longoria’s statement was.

After the online backlash, Longoria caved to the mob and posted an apology on Instagram.
“Watching this back I can see that this sounds like I’m comparing Latinas to Black women, which I would never do. I was comparing Latinas to their male counterparts, but my wording was not clear and I deeply regret that…” she wrote.
“Black women have long been the backbone of the Democratic Party, something we have seen played out in this election as well as previous ones.” She concluded her post with the proper deference, “Black women deserve a standing ovation for the work they have done year after year!! Over 90% of black women showed up for Biden. Finally, Black women shouldn’t have to do it alone. Latinas, many who identify as Afro Latina, and other women of color are standing with them so we can grow our collective voice and power. Together we are unstoppable! Again, so sorry for the confusion and lack of context on my part!”
Longoria’s initial statement was just kind of silly to begin with by implying that it’s only Latina women who are “CEOs of the household.” Yeah, that’s true for lots of women who aren’t Latina. That’s not a unique situation. That’s been my experience with the vast majority of married women, and even in my own home. But her apology is just
The same people that say that there are infinite genders also say that race is binary… unless it isn’t because identifying with two or more groups makes you more oppressed than just the one group. As an added bonus, some women can bash Eva Longoria for being a “white-ish” Latina and “erasing” the Black Latinas/Latinx, Afro-Latinas, or whatever term you’d like to use. Clement even adds “indigenous” to the ever-expanding intersectional list.
This kind of identity politics bullcrap is completely toxic, but the lefties LOVE them some division! They don’t like meritocracy or individuality because those are “white” things. It’s utterly ridiculous! And frankly, it’s racist.
This kind of thinking about race is a cancer in our society.
They want to judge people by the color of their skin and not by the content of their character. That is literally the polar opposite of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream.
For a party whose current leader is calling for unity, some of the loudest voices are calling for the exact opposite of that.
It appears that this election really was the “battle for the soul of the nation” and frankly, I’m really disappointed that so many people voted for division when they cast their ballot for Biden/Harris.
