She imagined herself a giant-killer, taking down Orange Man Bad. The trap she built to take down Trump backfired. It began with humiliating herself on the national stage, but it didn’t end there.
Quite apart from word that there had been evidence of collusion between her case against Trump and Biden’s White House, what really caused her case against Trump to unravel was news that a subordinate working on the case was involved in some very inappropriate after-hours consultations.
The case she had opened alleging illegal conduct on Trump’s part soon raised questions about Fani Willis’ own conduct and whether she was personally benefitting from trips she and her top prosecuter had taken, which had been billed to the taxpayer.
The trial that ought to have been her meal ticket to the sort of limitless future to which being useful to the Democrats’ political ambitions can open. Instead, it became the instrument of her own fall back to Earth.
The latest indignity being that the very case that lifted her from obscurity is no longer hers to conduct.
Try as she might to sandbag her boy-toy and ride this case into the sunset, the court has ruled against her.
The Georgia Court of Appeals in December ruled that Willis and her office could not continue to prosecute the case, citing an “appearance of impropriety” stemming from her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Willis appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court in January, but on Tuesday the high court declined in a 4-3 decision to take up the case. One judge didn’t participate and another was disqualified.
Steve Sadow, Trump’s attorney in the Georgia case, welcomed the decision.
“Willis’ misconduct during the investigation and prosecution of President Trump was egregious and she deserved nothing less than disqualification,” Sadow said in a statement. “This proper decision should bring an end to the wrongful political, lawfare persecutions of the president.” —FoxNews
