Illegal Immigration: NOW Liberals Care About Humanitarianism?
Growing up in Southern Arizona, I was constantly exposed to the illegal immigration problem and grew up very aware of it. Southern Arizona, particularly my hometown of Tucson, has always had a high population of illegal immigrants who filter in through the Nogales Arizona-Mexico border. Yes, a number were simply people looking for a better life and were law abiding, but unfortunately with them came a high volume of violence, drugs, and criminal activity.
Now please do not misconstrue what I am saying about immigrants, in this case, illegal immigrants. There is a difference, libs. I am not saying every individual crossing the border illegally is going to commit a crime or sell drugs. What I am saying is that growing up in Southern Arizona for 23 years gave me experience and insight on the issue that Americans elsewhere, particularly places like Boston, where I live now, clearly lack.
Interstate 10 is a major highway that connects Tucson and Phoenix and is arguably one of the most dangerous corridors in this country. The cartels set up scouts in the desert along this highway, where they spend months eying law enforcement’s surveillance of the area. They are typically armed with (in part thanks to Eric Holder) AK-47s and AR-15s. Not only are scouts present, but drug mules and coyotes (human smugglers) frequent the highway to smuggle an endless flow of illegal immigrants, drugs, and weaponry into the country. In addition, the cartels are at war with each other.
Liberals minimize it, Republicans won’t stand up to it. Liberals want to paint a picture similar to that of Ellis Island. That is not reality on the Arizona-Mexico border. Sometimes the reality you choose to believe benefits your agenda more than the reality of what’s actually happening.
While I would love to say that the current influx of illegal immigrants coming to America through the southern border will work to gain legal citizenship and contribute to our society that just simply isn’t the case. The proof is there—increasing crime rate, strain on state and federal resources, and gang and drug presence are all glaring results that illegal immigration is hurting America. Just ask the people living in these border states—it’s not a pretty place to live.
What used to be a border state problem has now spread to the rest of the country, leaving citizens and government to foot the ever growing bill. Thanks to this administration, places thousands of miles from the southern border like Massachusetts and Maryland are expected to feed, clothe, house, and provide assistance to illegal immigrants. They are not medically cleared, and any criminal background information is self reported, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
While originally stating these were mostly children escaping the harsh realities of Central America, we are now learning that many of them are adults sometimes posing as children to gain access into the country and free services. In Lynn, MA, Fox News reported that a number of illegal immigrant adults are posing as teenagers to gain access to free public education, and who knows what else.
The Lynn mayor’s chief of staff says, “Some of them have had gray hair and they’re telling you that they’re 17 years old and they have no documentation.”
That’s right, the violence in Central America doesn’t seem to be the primary reason for immigration according to a recent study by the El Paso Intelligence Center. Of the 230 immigrants interviewed, 219 said the primary reason they migrated to the U.S. was the notion that our immigration laws allowed unaccompanied minors and non-Mexican females traveling with minors.
Liberals are calling the influx of illegal immigrants a “humanitarian crisis” to which I must ask, since when do liberals care about the safety, freedom, and liberty of others? Where was this need for humanitarianism aid when four Americans were brutally killed in Benghazi because of this administration’s negligence? Where was the need for swift action when our U.S. veterans were disgraced and lost their lives because of a system that was supposed to support and aid them? Why is Obama taking more action to clothe, feed, and house illegal immigrants than he is to free U.S. Marine Andrew Tahmooressi, who is being detained in Mexico for 110 days and counting?
If liberals think the immigrants coming through our borders illegally deserve something, let them open their homes and checkbooks to support them. Let Obama open the White House to his future voters and provide them the refuge he believes they are entitled to.
This week, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick stated that Obama has asked him to house a large number of illegal immigrants, much to the alarm of even Democrats in the state. Patrick defended the request by comparing sending the children back to Central America to refusing passage of Jewish children to America, only to send them to their deaths in concentration camps. Yeah, he really went there.
Maybe our esteemed governor can take the burden off his state and the federal government by housing these children at his 7,500-square-foot home which sits on 77 acres in Western Massachusetts, affectionately called “Sweet P Farm.” There, the children will have access to Patrick’s tennis courts and at least one swimming pool, and of course be served nutritious meals, in accordance with Michelle Obama’s standards, of course. Not the ideal scenario, Deval? Well, that’s not surprising.
Even some Democrats are recognizing the strain housing and assisting illegals will result in. Democratic Springfield, MA mayor Domenic Sarno has requested a moratorium be placed on his city to prevent further refugees settling because his city’s resources are already strained. In Maryland, Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley publicly criticized sending illegals back to their country of origin, yet told a White House official afterwards to not send them to Maryland.
The hypocrisy is endless and liberals only want to help illegal immigrants as long as it’s not on their dime or in their backyard. Why do you think Obama refuses to visit the border? He has orchestrated a perception other countries now have of our country and they are using it against us. So, as Hillary would say, “What difference does it make?”
Why should our country sacrifice the freedom, safety, health, and finances of our citizens to fund these individuals? Had our borders been secure in the first place, this country would be less vulnerable to the limitless infiltration of people we simply cannot and should not absorb. This country was once a symbol of opportunity for immigrants. Now it is a symbol of endless freebies and handouts requiring nothing in return–and we have the left to thank for that.
