Do not be mistaken. The Second Amendment is being held hostage while liberal gun control hysteria is masking the truth about the shooting deaths of 15 students and two teachers in a Parkland, Florida school. Fiction not facts are dictating the decisions as Walmart joins Dick’s Sporting Goods to raise the age to buy guns. Why are the Second Amendment rights of millions of young adults between 18 and 21 being targeted due to Broward County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies’ mistakes?
The tragic shooting death of any innocent person in America anyone is a loss, yet, the sins of 19-year-old Florida shooter Nikolas Cruz has been wrongly attached to every innocent young mother or father who wants to protect their children or family. Why would Walmart or Dick’s Sporting Goods cave to Liberal anti-gun hysteria instead of demanding that the real culprits of that heinous crime be held accountable? The answer is easy: Blame the innocent gun law abiding gun owner.
Facts in the gun-control legislative assault on American’s constitutional right to bear arms has been easy to ignore when the mainstream media diverts the nation’s attention from what really happened. According to the Washington Examiner, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office received at least 45 warning calls about Florida shooter Nikolas Cruz and his family over the ten years. Nothing was done. What is even more disturbing is that several of those warnings said that Cruz could be a threat to the school he shot up on Feb. 14.
So why are young actual and future legal gunowners being penalized because a law enforcement agency ignored its own responsibility? Why are millions of Americans being stripped of their constitutional rights because the warning signs of this young killer’s mental instability were ignored?
No person in Florida or America who an 18-year-old should have to pay the penalty for the irresponsibility of a legal system that let a killer slip though.
Yet, facts be damned. Walmart told America’s young 18-year-olds to 21-year-olds that fabricated reasons are more important so they issued a statement: that “in light of recent events” it was raising the age for purchasers of firearms and ammunition to 21 from 18.
Not to be outdone in the liberal gun-control-fictionalized-rationale for hijacking Second Amendment rights of 18-year-olds, Dick‘s Sporting Goods issued a statement affirming that it will not sell any guns to people under age 21. But there was no mention of dealing with the real facts that this young man had mental issues that were not dealt with or addressed by local social work or law enforcement authorities.
By the way, if the alarmists and the millions of screaming gun control social media pundits could take the time to examine the facts, then perhaps their computer-based posts would stop. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 98 percent of criminals who used guns in crimes and murders in America did not obtain them through gun show “loopholes”. Only two percent who owned and used a gun during their crime bought it at either a gun show or flea market.
In addition, based upon two 2013 studies conducted by Pew Research Center and DOJ, U.S. gun-related homicides plummeted 39 percent over the course of 18 years, from 18,253 during 1993, to 11,101 in 2011. Also, non-fatal firearm crimes decreased an incredible 69 percent. For those liberals who contend background checks are the reason these mass murderers able to carry out their assaults, they are wrong. The Las Vegas shooter and Cruz both passed background checks.
According to the DOJ, the FBI recorded a record number of 2.78 million background checks for purchases in the December 2012 month, surpassing a 2.01 million mark set the month before by about 39 percent. In fact, FBI checks for all of 2012 totaled 19.6 million. This was an annual record and represented an increase of 19 percent over 2011 background check numbers.
So, why didn’t Walmart or Dick’s Sporting Goods put their vast monetary resources behind actions that would help support real solutions using real facts to address preventing mental health threats from gaining access to guns? Of course, joining forces with local, state or federal legislators who want to honestly address prevention that does not strip innocent gun owners of their rights is too much of a stretch for them.
Instead these retailers would rather kneel down to gun control sycophants. Millions of Second Amendment supporters should contact them let them know why standing up for the Second Amendment is crucial to America.
