Apartheid (“apartness” in Afrikaans) was legally sanctioned segregation in South Africa that occurred between 1948 and 1994. Its aim was to separate the people of South Africa into four groups: Blacks, Indians, Whites, and Coloreds (Black/White mix); oddly, whites represented a minority population.
It would be difficult to overstate the horrors endured by black and mixed-race people in South Africa. From beaches to bathrooms, restaurants to park benches, non-whites were subjugated and assaulted in the public square — and it was written into the law. I’m surprised there are people in this world who still believe human beings are born inherently good when they know apartheid ended a mere 24 years ago.
But it’s over, right? Everyone has equality. We’re all good.
No. Now it’s payback. The left around the world will, of course, cheer this development.
THE South African government has begun the process of seizing land from white farmers.
Local newspaper City Press reports two game farms in the northern province of Limpopo are the first to be targeted for unilateral seizure after negotiations with the owners to purchase the properties stalled.
While the government says it intends to pay, owners Akkerland Boerdery wanted 200 million rand ($18.7 million) for the land — they’re being offered just 20 million rand ($1.87 million).
“Notice is hereby given that a terrain inspection will be held on the farms on April 5, 2018 at 10am in order to conduct an audit of the assets and a handover of the farm’s keys to the state,” a letter sent to the owners earlier this year said.
Akkerland Boerdery obtained an urgent injunction to prevent eviction until a court had ruled on the issue, but the Department of Rural Development and Land Affairs is opposing the application.
“What makes the Akkerland case unique is that they apparently were not given the opportunity to first dispute the claim in court, as the law requires,” AgriSA union spokeswoman Annelize Crosby told the paper.
It comes as the South African government pushes ahead with plans to amend the country’s constitution to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation. The seizures are intended to test the ability of the government to take land under existing laws, which the ruling African National Congress has previously stated is allowable if “in the public interest”.
Funny how “in the public interest” is interpreted in South Africa the same way “the general welfare” is interpreted in the United States. To the statist, these phrases mean whatever we tell you they mean.
If it can be proven that land owned by a white person was stolen from a black person during the apartheid years, it would be hard to argue against the legitimacy of such a case, and all plaintiffs should have their day in court. But that’s not what’s happening here. This isn’t “take back what was stolen.”
This is revenge writ large, with violence (emphasis mine):
Johannesburg – EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters] leader Julius Malema has explained that his party is specifically aiming to remove Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip because he is white.
“We have taken a decision that we are going to remove the mayor of PE [Port Elizabeth],” he told a crowd gathered for the launch of the party’s election registration campaign at the Standard Bank arena in Johannesburg on Sunday.
“Why? Why not [mayor of DA-led Johannesburg Herman] Mashaba, why not Solly [Msimanga – mayor of DA-led Tshwane]?
“Because the mayor of DA in PE is a white man. So, these people, when you want to hit them hard – go after a white man. They feel a terrible pain, because you have touched a white man.”
He said this did not mean that the EFF would not target Mashaba and Msimanga.
“They will be touched – don’t worry. But we are starting with this whiteness. We are cutting the throat of whiteness.”
Racism is wrong. Racism backed with violence is evil. No one should be treated differently based on the color of his skin. If you think land grabs are the extent of what will happen to whites in South Africa, you’re wrong. Give it time, and you’ll see a level of racism only Democrats could love.
Sorry. It’s already happening.
By the way, this is the same country whose constitution Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg prefers over our own.
Brace yourselves for more land seizures, violence against whites, backlash against blacks, and Democrats applauding it all.
