Christmas Comes Early To The GOP

Christmas in not far away and many people have already begun shopping. From purchasing Fingerling puppets to the latest in electronic gadgetry, people are spending money at a higher rate than a year ago to get the latest and greatest gifts. As I was looking over my own shopping list, it occurred to me that the GOP has been given a couple of early Christmas presents. What do I mean?

A Harvard-Harris poll, taken November 27th and 28th of this year indicates the leading contenders for the Democrats nomination for president in 2020. The numbers indicate Joe Biden in the lead with 28%. He’s followed by everyone’s favorite grumpy socialist Bernie Sanders with 21%. Third place goes to the runner-up in the Texas Senate race, Robert Francis O’Rourke, a.k.a. Beto, with 7%. Not even Rahm Emmanuel thinks O’Rourke should be getting attention.

Who knows whether that will hold up in 2019, but what an incredible gift it is to President Trump and the GOP that the leading candidate of the Democrats is a 76-year-old plagiarist who rode shot-gun with Barack Obama as they dismantled the country. Their current second choice is a 77-year-old self-described socialist who once said, “”I think we should look to countries like Denmark, like Sweden and Norway, and learn what they have accomplished for their working people.” Tim Mullaney, in a May 13, 2016 edition of Market Watch responded, “Really? Europe, the continent with 10.2% unemployment and 0.8% annual growth in gross domestic product since 2010? Where Switzerland and Germany have private health insurance, with deductibles, much like the Obamacare Sanders dismisses? Where Norway pays for cradle-to-grave services — with oil money? And Sweden sports 7.2% unemployment?”

Beautifully wrapped, under the tree, is the fact that the Democrats, currently, have no one of substance to take on President Trump. That doesn’t mean the election will be easy. It never is for the Republicans, but this crop of Democrats is a bit lacking.

A second gift I found, looking through the boxes and bows is the expected tendency of the media and Democrats to overreach and cross the line in their unfounded hatred of President Trump. We already see signs of that gift. The issue of illegal immigration continues to find the Democrats and media on the wrong side of facts and the American people. John Kass reported on November 28, 2018, “The caravan of thousands of Central American migrants is finally at the border. Mexico is keeping them back. The other day, after rocks were thrown at American border officials, several hundred migrants bolted through, trying to illegally rush their way into America, and some were hit with tear gas.”

This action outraged the left. Kass notes liberal pundits were wringing their hands about the tear gas and bleating about Trump’s stringent border enforcement. They were casually tossing words like “fascist” and “racist.” He cites an important truth, though. Most Americans are asking, “Is there anything wrong with mandating that immigrants legally apply for asylum rather than break into the U.S. and fade into America?” Most Americans want a secure border. According to Scott Rasmussen in a poll concluded on December 3, 2018, “Eight out of 10 voters nationwide believe that illegal immigration is bad for America.”

The left is also wrapped up in identity politics and are sore losers. In Georgia, Stacey Abrams refused to concede when her loss was obvious. In an action now prevalent on the left, she whined that instead of being rejected by the voters in a close race, she was a victim of “voter suppression” perpetrated by her opponent, Brian Kemp. In both the Senate and gubernatorial races in Florida, the Democrats publicly and loudly refused to accept the will of voters, demanding recounts and “finding” votes.

It’s likely that the Democrats and their media allies will continue to overreach. Their hate for the president and the regular people that support him colors everything they do. They will claim facts from the Mueller probe that aren’t there. They will continue to promote fake news and try to hide the good news that America is back and greater than ever. They will take it over the top in 2019 and the American people will, as they did in 2016, see the truth. Their hate, arrogance and elitism are gifts that keeps on giving.

Christmas is a time for giving. We share with the ones we love because God shared his Son with us first. Let’s not lose sight of what it’s all about. President Trump boldly declared that a few days ago in remarks at the lighting of the National Christmas Tree.

For Christians all across our nation, around the world, this is a sacred season that begins 2,000 years ago when Jesus Christ was born. An angel declared to the shepherds tending their flocks, “Behold, I bring you good tidings, great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is a born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” There in Bethlehem, Mary and Joseph held in their hands the son of God; the light of the world; and, through Him, the promise of eternal salvation.

No matter one’s faith or beliefs, the Christmas season reflects all that is best in the American spirit. This is a time of the year for rejoicing with our family and friends, for spreading charity and goodwill in our commitment all over this country in all of our communities, and for giving thanks for all of the blessings in our lives.

Here’s how the media elite recorded what he said. CBS News flatly stated, “Mr. Trump offered some remarks about the birth of Jesus.” UPI condensed it down to “He also delivered remarks about the birth of Jesus Christ and reading a passage from the Bible.”

Let’s be thankful for all the gifts we have, including those the Democrats and media elites keep providing.
