Venezuela: How The Left Is Failing The Freedom Test

Increasingly, Maduro and the violence he’s wielding against his own citizens leave him marked as a tyrant desperately clinging to power.

Who stands opposed to him will shed light on who really opposes tyrants when the chips are down.

In light of the illegitimate elections Maduro used to claim ‘reelection’, with political opponents in prison, Venezuela invoked a section of its constitution to confer interim political power on another man in government until a legitimate vote can take place. And countries around the world are beginning to back the interim replacement.

Maduro’s few remaining friends in the world are as bad as he is.

Moscow. China. Syria. Iran. Turkey. Plus some smaller countries, including Cuba.

It’s a veritable whos-who list of tinpot tyrants and human right’s abusers.

Trump and Pence were quick to throw support behind Guaidó, and the freedom of a needlessly suffering people in Venezuela.

Others on the left were not so sanguine about Guaidó’s role.

Maduro called Guaido’s declaration as the acting president a U.S.-backed coup. Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat, seems to agree. Sen. Bernie Sanders also used the “coup” charge.

Occasio-Cortez also retweeted a statement opposed to this solution.

The problems there are the direct outflow of policies that have eroded a once-wealthy nation for years. The fact that a former bus driver is running the country into the ground hasn’t struck anbody as odd? And that Chavez’ daughter is among the wealthiest people in the world, wealth measured in Billions? How is that possible in a socialist paradise, except that Reynold’s saying about Socialist economies are where the powerful become rich.

Venezuela began nationalizing industries. And industries stopped investing. When bakeries had supply shortages and couldn’t supply bread, the bakeries were nationalized, too. On and on it goes until there is hardly anything left.

Remember that Mad Maxine quote?

“Guess what this liberal will be all about?” Waters bloviated. “This liberal will be all about socializing – uh, um … ”
There was an awkward pause before Waters continued that she “would be about basically taking over and the government running all of your companies.”

She’s all for ‘nationalizing’.

So is the group that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was — until recently — connected with:

In practice, that means DSA [members advocate] ending private ownership of a wide range of industries whose products are viewed as “necessities,” which they say should not be left to those seeking to turn a profit. According to the DSA’s current mission statement, the government should ensure that all citizens receive adequate food, housing, health care, child care, and education. DSA also believes that the government should “democratize” private businesses — i.e., force owners to give workers control of them — to the greatest extent possible.

And Kamala Harris? She’s got her own version of Nationalization brewing:

“I believe the solution — and I actually feel very strongly about this — is that we need to have Medicare-for-all,” she said. “That’s just the bottom line.”
…When pressed by town hall host Jake Tapper over whether she would be willing to eliminate private health insurance as part of creating that new single payer system, Harris stood firm.

“Who of us has not had that situation, where you’ve got to wait for approval (for medical care) and the doctor says, well, I don’t know if your insurance company is going to cover this?,” Harris said. “Let’s eliminate all of that. Let’s move on.”

And that infamous quote by Bernie on his Senator page about the ‘real’ American Dream being found in places like (among others) Venezuela? That was when food supplies were already beginning to falter. But we should trust them to do socialism ‘right’, shouldn’t we?

Russia, Syria, Cuba, Iran, China. They are all aligning themselves with Maduro. That list of countries looks familiar, doesn’t it?

Obama aligned with Russia on that hot mic, did nothing to stop them from swallowing up Crimea, and bent over backwards to kiss Iran’s ass. Does anyone really think that if it happened on his watch, he’d be siding with Venezuela’s legitimate Constitutional remedy to a tyrant like Maduro?

Trump is siding AGAINST Maduro, and WITH any number of Freedom-loving nations in defense of the interests of the suffering people of Venezuela. Nations without a crazy number of human rights complaints against them.

This was the Left’s opportunity to show they truly are supporters of freedom. It was as much a test of their judgment as it is of their ideology.

Any way you slice it, they’ve failed this test.

And all of those bleating sheep clutching their pearls about ‘Russian collusion’ look around. There is exactly one party busy polishing Putin’s apple in this scenario.

And it isn’t the Republicans.

Maybe Mueller’s been looking into the wrong party all along.
