Facebook Hypocrisy: Social Media Giant Donated Big Bucks To Scandal-Plagued Virginia Dems — While Policing Conservative Speech

Facebook is keeping pretty quiet on the Northam/Fairfax/Herring controversies.

That’s because they donated a total of $40,000 to the three candidates combined.

Does Facebook not believe that blackface is a racist act? What about Fairfax facing two accusations of sexual assault? Facebook has said nada.

According to donor records, Facebook contributed $25,000 to Northam’s 2018 Inaugural committee and $5,000 to Herring in 2013.

The company also has been quiet about the $10,000 given to Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax’s 2018 Inaugural committee. Fairfax has been accused of sexual assault by two women.

State political and African-American leaders have called on the lawmakers to resign. However, all three appear to be staying. They have apologized.

Their silence is telling because the company demanded that Mississippi GOP Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith return a $2,500 that they gave her after she allegedly made ‘racially-tinged’ remarks. Her apology wasn’t enough for Facebook and they demanded that she return the money.

You’d think that admissions of full-on blackface that Northam and Herring would be worse than a joke about a ‘public hanging’ — which was a legal method of executing criminals, by the way, and not necessarily a reference to the despicable racist practice of lynching black Americans decades ago.

In the case of Mississippi’s Cindy Hyde-Smith, Facebook and several other contributors demanded their donations back after a video surfaced showing her joking about how she would sit in “the front row” of a public hanging…

…In a story about those seeking refunds from her at the time, the Examiner ’s Daniel Chaitin wrote, “The social media company gave $2,500 to Hyde-Smith in September, but asked for its money back late Monday. ‘The recent public comments made by Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith do not reflect the values or mission of Facebook,’ a Facebook representative said, according to the Washington Post. ‘Our PAC contribution was made before these comments were made, and we have asked the Hyde-Smith campaign to return our campaign donation.’”

The social media giant has long had a history of bizarre contradictory actions. In 2013, there was outrage when it was revealed that Facebook was cracking down on photos of women breastfeeding, but not on videos of beheadings. They’ve been criticized for allowing harassment of users on their platform, but have been proactively shutting down political news and commentary pages and accounts for alleged ‘spamming’, ‘inauthentic behavior’, and generally being successful. I’m sure it’s just an oversight and the crack team at CNN are heading over to Facebook HQ and tracking down President Obama for statements on the scandal-plagued Virginia Democrats as we speak…
