If the Left actually believes their own rhetoric, you’d think they would love it! What’s not to love for the party who’s on record for objecting to border security?
Even the Left can hardly pretend the situation on our Mexican border isn’t an issue anymore. People are flooding in faster than we can find places to keep them.
The law — which Democrats recently changed to force fewer beds being available for ‘asylum’ seekers — is the root of the problem. We’ve covered that before.
The Dems are ‘outraged’ by families being split up. The Dems are also ‘outraged’ by children being held ‘in cages with their incarcerated families (AOC even brags about how she used her power in Congress to bully banks to stop giving loans to private companies that would build the shelters needed to house the supposed ‘asylum seekers’.)
Trump has been looking at creative solutions to this problem and has been vigorously opposed by Democrats when he set forward the possibility of having asylum-seekers wait in Mexico for their hearing to be decided. Dems cheered when that was struck down in the courts. The 9th Circuit has delayed implementation of that ruling until they can hear a ‘stay’ request.
The only remaining option is to let illegal entrants Walk Away, (from legal consequences, not from the Democrat party like the WalkAway movement) and hope that someday they will show up in court where we can eventually find out which ones are lying and/or dangerous.
Trump has offered a creative solution. The Left should love it, but no, they’re hopping mad.
Resettle them in Sanctuary cities!
Especially those places where there isn’t all that much diversity. You know… the places where John Kerry, or Nancy Pelosi or Mayor Bloomberg live.
What’s not to love?
And meanwhile, in Mexico (in case you’re still being told that these migrants are ‘good people’ and not ‘bad hombres’…
Mexican authorities said a group of about 350 migrants broke the locks on a gate at the Guatemalan border Friday and forced their way into southern Mexico to join a larger group of migrants trying to make their way toward the United States.
…The institute said the migrants were acting in a “hostile” and “aggressive” way, and accused them of also attacking local police in Metapa, a Mexican village that lies between the border and the nearby city of Tapachula. — AP
The big problem in this situation is the current policies endanger children and encourage adults (in many cases, not unrelated to the children they travel with) to endanger them on a dangerous trip across the desert. Young girls are given birth control to prepare them for the abuse they are most likely to endure.
Has anyone looked into the legal feasibility of amending the law to add a criminal endangerment of children offense to anyone smuggling children across by way of an illegal border crossing, and prioritizing that criminal trial over any asylum hearings? Who could possibly object to the separation of children on grounds of protecting their safety? Democrats lose their ‘compassionate’ card.
If feasible, it could solve three distinct problems — one it would cut off the profit motive for the criminal entities smuggling these people over the border in the first place.
Two: it would divert any honest asylum seekers with children to use lawful means of entry or — better still — apply for asylum at an embassy elsewhere.
Parents taking children with them over the border — and risking their safety in the process — is a new phenomenon, one that arose in response to this change in policy. This would likely return our border situation to the ‘old’ normal of adults trying to find their way into the country on their own.
