Hey Pelosi: Mexican Military Disarmed American Soldiers On US Soil — Is Border Security Important NOW?

Guns were leveled at two American soldiers by Mexican military forces in a daylight encounter on US Soil. But border security is still not a big deal to Democrats?

Are we a sovereign nation or not?

One of the identifying features of a sovereign nation, as opposed to a province or state swallowed up under a larger empire, is the ability to have final control who and what crosses its own borders… and under what conditions.

When a foreign military crosses over onto that border, arms drawn that’s not a good look.

It was April 13, and the Army sergeant and private had set up a hasty observation post north of the Rio Grande but south of the border fence in U.S. territory. The soldiers were members of B Battery, 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state. The unit, part of the Southwest border mission President Donald Trump first ordered in October 2018, recently had its deployment extended to September.

At roughly 2 p.m. local time, the soldiers observed five to six individuals dressed in green pixelated military camouflage uniforms and carrying weapons, which appeared to be the FX-05 Xiuhcoatl, an assault rifle designed and built for the Mexican armed forces.

The armed men swiftly approached the U.S. service members, crossing over from the Mexican side of the Rio Grande into U.S. territory and ordering the soldiers out of their vehicle at gunpoint.

What transpired on that afternoon of April 13 near the small town of Clint, Texas, underscores the confusion between the physical location of the border fence and where the geographical U.S.-Mexico border begins and ends. In Texas, the border fence does not align perfectly with the topography of the precise location of the U.S.-Mexico border, and this creates a buffer zone between the actual, often invisible, border and the fence.

…Newsweek obtained a copy of the serious incident report generated 30 minutes after Mexican military members briefly detained and held at gunpoint the U.S. soldiers after believing they were in Mexican territory, when in fact the Mexican military had unknowingly crossed into U.S. territory. The report was reviewed by U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Gatlin, the commander of 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, and briefed to U.S. Army Lieutenant General Jeffrey Buchanan, the commanding general of U.S. Army North.

…The deputy director of public affairs for NORAD and U.S. Northern Command, John Cornelio, said in a statement to Newsweek on Friday that a joint inquiry by CBP and the Defense Department revealed the gunmen to be Mexican military members who believed the U.S. soldiers were south of the Mexican border.

Wait… did that say five or six soldiers at gunpoint?

Do you notice that the Mexican government is more aggressive in defense of their border against intrusion than the US is? Now compare that story against this one. The Mexicans are pissed that 200 ‘migrants’ were detained on US soil by an armed civilian militia group.

In New Mexico, a group of self-styled Patriots has taken to doing something Congress has not deemed a financial priority, namely defending the border themselves. One of the prominent members, Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, was since arrested by the FBI.

The militia group, which calls itself the United Constitutional Patriots, earlier this week posted several videos to social media showing armed civilians detaining large groups of Central American families in New Mexico. One video showed the group holding about 200 asylum-seeking migrants at gunpoint until U.S. Border Patrol agents arrived, The New York Times reported.

The group’s objective is to monitor the border until President Trump fulfills his campaign promise of a border wall or until Congress enacts stronger legislation to make it more difficult for migrants to request asylum, spokesman Jim Benvie told the Times in a phone interview on Thursday.

Benvie said in a video that the group’s members were assisting a “stressed and overstrained Border Patrol” and said the group is legally armed for self-defense and never points guns at migrants. The posted videos do not show them with firearms drawn.

It does not appear that the group has in any way mistreated the border-jumpers, but only held them as they waited for authorities to come and collect them.

First — does Mexico seem like a bit of a double-standard?

As for the American response, such acts are very strongly discouraged by authorities. But should they be?

Look back to the birth of America, at the grand speeches about a man’s home being his castle, at individual groups banding together for the common defense in the cause of Independence.

How is that any different in principle, from people acting in their own interest when the government itself is failing to do so?

And if civilians are to be discouraged from taking such action — isn’t the only reasonable remedy that Congress get up off its expanding ass and finally do something about securing the Southern border?

If Congress keeps letting this problem go unchecked, the pendulum will eventually swing the other way, until people will no longer have an appetite to entertain conversations about finding some kind of a fair way to integrate those who came here illicitly into our society and talk about forced deportations will be the next logical step. And Congress will have only its own cynical political brinksmanship to blame.

Like most things, when you fail to fix a problem when it is small, the ‘fix’ when the problem grows will require increasingly drastic correctives.

Is that REALLY a situation the Democrats want to precipitate?

Built the wall. Secure the border. Let everyone come in through the front door… or not at all.

If amnesty is automatically denied, without a hearing, to anyone crossing illegally, the incentive to cross illegally will instantly disappear.

And those numbers will drop… meaning the children crossing illegally will no longer be in danger.
