And you thought the Star Wars fans took their moviegoing ‘super’-seriously.
The long-awaited resolution to the Marvel Universe story arc is now coming to a conclusion… those who follow the series were on the edge of their seats with a cliffhanger that broke all the ‘happy ending’ formulations and story rules of the Super Hero universe.
The bad guy won. Well — maybe.
There’s still a sequel where they might pull a rabbit out of the hat and make everything right again. Right? RIGHT?
For those of our readers who would rather perform DIY dentistry on your own teeth than watch any Hollywood ‘blockbuster films’, that description will more or less get you up to speed.
This week, the wait was over. People finally got to find out if there’s a happy ending after all.
The waiting, and not knowing was — for the superfans — a big part of the fun.
Fun, that is, until somebody in Hong Kong decided to troll the crowd in line for tickets by shouting out how the movie ended.
You might say they ‘didn’t take it well’.
Pictures of the man who revealed the spoiler shows him left bloodied outside a cinema in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. Other Marvel film fans eagerly queuing to see Avengers: Endgame were said to have been furious and some reportedly went to beat the man up to teach him a lesson, according to Taiwanese media. Earlier this month Anthony and Joe Russo, directors of the film, issued an open letter to fans pleading with them to not reveal any spoilers of the final film in the series.
While we obviously don’t condone violence as a response to speech, this guy hasn’t learned one of the first rules of public speaking. It’s important to know your audience.
Some things are simply colossally dumb ideas.
You don’t go to certain stadiums where fans get particularly drunk and rowdy and troll the home team, especially certain soccer matches where fans have been known to start massive brawls.
And thinking that Opening-night superfans wearing their favorite superhero swag would NOT react badly to a troll deliberately spoiling the ending is almost as predictably foolish.
