Normally, the safest place a kid could play is in their own front yard. Just not THIS time.
This was a worst-case example of “wrong place, wrong time”.
Scratch that. It was nearly worst-case. At least little LaDerihanna Holmes survived being hit by the runaway car.
“I do not understand how she survived,” her family’s attorney, L. Chris Stewart, said.
Holmes’ mother, Charlette Bolton, said LaDerihanna suffered a fractured skull and cuts on her scalp and shoulder, and her pelvic bone is broken in three places. LaDerihanna’s friend was also hospitalized, but not seriously injured.
DeKalb County police said the driver of the car and a passenger both got out of the car after it crashed into the front of the house and ran away. Police spoke with the owner of the car, who said her boyfriend had it that day. They have not identified any suspects.

She’s in the hospital, naturally. But she is expected to recover.
Stewart said when he saw the video, he “almost fell out of my chair.” And then when he visited LaDerihanna in the hospital he “just stared at her in the bed wondering ‘How is she sitting right here watching TV, holding a teddy bear when I just saw her get crushed by a car?'”

She’s a straight-a kid, AND her brother knows CPR?
Mom and dad have been doing something right.
Something tells me they’re going to bounce back from this nightmare stronger than ever.
Let’s hope the cowards who ran away after smashing a little girl between a car and a house are eaten alive by guilt until they turn themselves in.
Or that somebody recognizes them from the video and reports them.
Just so long as we get them off the street before they actually kill someone.
