Dear Reps. Omar & Tlaib: Palestinian Authority Bans Pro-LGBT Activities In The West Bank — Is That Bigotry?

Written by K. Walker on August 19, 2019

Uh-oh! This isn’t the type of news that the Congresswomen want in the headlines as they draw attention to the plight of the Palestinians!

A pro-LGBTQ group, al-Qaws, has been banned from holding a public gathering of its members at the end of the month in the West Bank. The group was organizing a “queer camp” in Nablus. It was to be “a place for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth from Palestine to meet, learn about the basic concepts of gender pluralism and explore the different sides of our human sexuality.”

Luay Zreikat, the spokesman for the Palestinian Authority Police, claims that the group’s activities are “harmful to the higher values and ideals of Palestinian society.”

The Jerusalem Post reports:

The ban came after the grassroots group Al-Qaws for Sexual & Gender Diversity in Palestinian Society (Arabic for “the bow”), which engages and supports Palestinians who identify as LGBTQ, was planning to hold a gathering for its members in Nablus at the end of the month. The group operates both in the West Bank and among Arab-Israelis…

…Zreikat said that the group’s activities were completely “unrelated to religions and Palestinian traditions and customs, especially in the city of Nablus.”

He accused unnamed “dubious parties” of working to “create discord and harm civic peace in Palestinian society.”

The Democrats, who constantly virtue-signal that they are concerned about the marginalized and oppressed around the world don’t have a lot to say about the banning of al-Qaws by the Palestinian Authority.

Back in June, Ilhan Omar(D-MN) and her teenage daughter made an appearance to celebrate Pride with the local LGBTQ community.

Watch her dancing!

Rep. Rashida Tlaib(D-MI) has counted the LGBTQ community one of her “allies” against Trump.

The question is, will they stand up for the LGBTQ community in the West Bank?

Remember that these people on the left that are silent on the treatment of gays under the Palestinian Authority are the same ones that say, “WE’RE LITERALLY LIVING IN THE HANDMAID’S TALE IN THE UNITED STATES!”

(For those of you that don’t watch the HBO show, it’s not just the “patriarchy” and rolling back of women’s rights in the leftist fever-dream dystopia — being gay in the fictional country of Gilead is punishable by death.)

So, is the Palestinian Authority’s banning of al-Qaws and threatening police action against them a topic that Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib were going to tackle on their visit?

The “speak truth to power” folks aren’t so keen to speak up on human rights for gays in the West Bank, apparently.

If they had gone, they’d have to address this issue being the virtue-signaling leftists that they are.

It almost makes me wish that the trip hadn’t been canceled.

Almost.

Al-Qaws responded to the ban by refusing to back down.

“The Palestinian police announcement about our activities is very unfortunate,” the group said. “It’s very strange that they are accusing us of being a suspicious entity working to take apart Palestinian society. Al-Qaws is a Palestinian organization that has been operating since 2001, and is carrying out educational and professional programs on sexual and gender diversity. We totally reject the attempt to create an atmosphere of prosecution and intimidation, as well threats of arrest.”

A member of Al-Qaws said that since the police announcement, he and his friends have received hundreds of threats and hate messages from Palestinians, especially through Facebook. “The attack on us is unprecedented,” he told The Jerusalem Post. “They are calling us traitors and corrupt people and many are calling for our execution. We are afraid for our lives.”

Whatever you think of the LGBTQ lobby in 2019 — whether it’s awesome, going to far, or normalizing sin — we should all be able to agree that all people should have basic human rights and not be arrested solely on expressing their beliefs on sexual orientation.

Ironically, it’s the Trump administration that is applying pressure to countries that still criminalize homosexuality to repeal those laws.

Here’s President Trump’s reportedly favorite ambassador, Richard Grenell, (who happens to be a married, gay man,) giving his take on the news from the West Bank:
