California is suddenly very concerned about the border with Mexico.
All it took was a global pandemic.
The documented cases of the novel coronavirus that spread globally because of the inaction by the Chinese Communist Party is spiking in Mexico and it’s making some leaders in Cali border towns quite nervous.
Despite an agreement in March between the U.S. and Mexico to limit travel across the border during the pandemic, tens of thousands of people continue to cross the San Ysidro-Tijuana border daily.
San Diego County officials have expressed concern over the sheer volume of border crossings in the midst of a global pandemic.
Mexico had a total of 22,088 COVID-19 cases as of May 2, and officials in southern California have sought assistance in reducing cases in the U.S. that stem from border crossings…
…Kristin Gaspar, San Diego County’s Third District supervisor, sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence in April saying that medical professionals were “increasingly worried about the rapid spread of COVID-19 in northern Mexico” and that there had been “a sudden influx of critically ill patients from Mexico” in Chula Vista, Calif. Gaspar asked for senior Trump administration officials to speak with local hospital executives and medical professionals to address the issue.
Additionally, Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder and Sharp HealthCare COVID‐19 Strategic Response Executive Consultant Daniel Gross wrote a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf asking for help in dealing with coronavirus cases at the border…
…”Today, coronavirus cases are increasing at rates exceedingly faster among border communities compared to the rest of San Diego County,” Van Gorder and Gross said.

President Trump tweeted about the seeming flip-flop, “Mexico is sadly experiencing very big CoronaVirus problems, and now California, get this, doesn’t want people coming over the Southern Border. A Classic! They are sooo lucky that I am their President. Border is very tight and the Wall is rapidly being built!”

It should be noted that despite the way polling looks, there are still pockets of California that are Republican-leaning. San Diego County had backed the Trump administration’s court challenge to “Sanctuary State” laws back in 2018.
California is indeed lucky that the President is Trump and he’s clamped down on the border. The Big, Beautiful Wall™ is being built (albeit at a slower rate than many Trump-supporters wanted) and our immigration laws are being enforced.
Just imagine if some of the Democrat bright lights were in charge during the pandemic. Yikes! They wouldn’t have reduced border crossings at all.
The left’s constant moral preening and knee-jerk reaction to oppose Trump no matter what has led them to oppose border control measures, possible coronavirus treatments, and reject the President’s assertion that locking down the country for weeks on end can have some negative consequences. And that’s just during the pandemic!
I hope that when viewed through the lens of history, President Trump will be seen fairly.
And that he was right on so many things while the political “betters” were wrong.
