Democrat Rage Against Confirmation
In a wonderful twist of irony, on October 26, 2020, Hillary Clinton’s 73rd birthday, Justice Clarence Thomas, whom then Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) maliciously smeared, swore in Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court.
President Trump tweeted about her confirmation, “Last night, we made history and confirmed Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court! Justice Barrett will defend our rights, our liberties, and our God-Given FREEDOM!”
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) tweeted, “It was an honor to vote to confirm Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court! We now have nine justices, let’s keep it that way!”
Justice Barrett was eminently qualified, and no Democrat senator could deny it. The attacks on her religious faith fell flat. The only stance the Democrats could take against Justice Barrett was that her nomination was inappropriate. This stance, regurgitated by the left-wing media, is simply false. When the Senate is controlled by the same party as the president’s, then 87% of Supreme Court nominees are approved. When the Senate is led by the opposing party to the president, the facts are less than half are approved.
The truth? There was absolutely nothing wrong, inappropriate, or broken about the Senate confirming Justice Barrett.
The truth, though, matters little to the Democrats and their media accomplices. Sarah Jones whined in the Intelligencer, “Barrett has little practical legal or judicial experience; she is significantly less qualified than even other conservative justices on the bench. She is deliberately evasive about her jurisprudential philosophy and her political views, though the public evidence that does exist suggests both are extreme.”
Joe Biden tweeted, “The rushed and unprecedented confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett as Associate Justice to the Supreme Court, in the middle of an ongoing election, should be a stark reminder to every American that your vote matters.”
Kamala Harris tweeted, “Today Republicans denied the will of the American people by confirming a Supreme Court justice through an illegitimate process—all in their effort to gut the Affordable Care Act and strip health care from millions with pre-existing conditions.”
There’s a lot that’s offensive in the Democrats’ stance. First, there is no validity to the assertion that Barrett is “significantly less qualified” than anyone else on the Court. The American Bar Association rated her “well qualified.” The attack on her qualifications smacks of religious intolerance and a lack of respect for conservative women. As for having views in the extreme, Ms. Jones should look no further than liberal icon RBG who, in my opinion, was about as extreme as they come.
As for candidate Biden’s statement, there was nothing unprecedented about a president appointing a Supreme Court justice nominee when there is a vacancy. The president is elected for four years and has the constitutional responsibility to do so. As we’ve note, the Senate has the responsibility to advise and consent. This nomination was done in the normal way. The truth is, Democrats would’ve done exactly the same thing had they been afforded the opportunity. As President Obama once wryly noted, “elections have consequences.”
Harris’ tweet is also repugnant. She claims the Senate “denied the will of the American people” by confirming Justice Barrett. That, too, is patently false. In 2016 Americans elected Donald Trump to be president. In 2016 and in 2018, Americans gave control of the Senate to Republicans. That’s the will of the American people. It just isn’t Harris’ will or that of her far-left supporters.
Why does this matter? I mean, isn’t Justice Barrett on the Court now? Yes, she is. However, the battle continues to rage. The Democrats are fuming and promising to blow up the foundations of our country.
The New York Post reports, “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) warned in a speech on the Senate floor Monday that his Republican colleagues would come to regret their decision to move forward on Barrett’s nomination.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) have already called for expanding the Supreme Court.
The election is less than a week away. Though it seems a bit hyperbolic, this election is huge. The course of our nation will be set for years to come. Conservatives have fought long and hard to set the direction of the court. It could all be lost if Biden and his liberal elites pack the court.
Biden has said character is on the ballot. If it is, then consider his own corruption. Consider the Democrats’ bitter bromides against an impeccable judge. Consider the condescension the left has for regular people. Consider the disrespect liberals show law enforcement. Consider our nation’s values and vote. Vote Red. Vote Trump.
