Austin Mayor In Damage Control Mode After Delivering ‘Lockdown’ Message… From Cabo Timeshare

The latest in a string of fear merchant politicians dishing out lockdown expectations they have no intention of abiding by is the mayor of Austin. His particular form of hypocrisy was particularly egregious.

In early November, as health officials warned of an impending COVID-19 spike, Austin Mayor Steve Adler hosted an outdoor wedding and reception with 20 guests for his daughter at a trendy hotel near downtown.

The next morning, Adler and seven other wedding attendees boarded a private jet bound for Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they vacationed for a week at a family timeshare.

One night into the trip, Adler addressed Austin residents in a Facebook video: “We need to stay home if you can. This is not the time to relax. We are going to be looking really closely. … We may have to close things down if we are not careful.”

In hosting the wedding and traveling internationally, Adler said he broke neither his own order or those established by Gov. Greg Abbott.

But at the time, the city was recommending people not gather in groups of more than 10, and the day after Adler’s departure, Austin’s health authority warned that “it’s important that we drive the (COVID-19) numbers down in advance of Thanksgiving.” –Statesman

International travel? For Mayor Steve Adler, his family, and a private flight was A-Ok.

For anyone else? Such a ‘reckless’ act would be pure evil.

In a statement released to CBS Austin on Wednesday, Adler said he feared his example could be “used by some as justification for risky behavior.”

Adler also maintains he violated no city or state order:

I regret this travel. I wouldn’t travel now, didn’t over Thanksgiving and won’t over Christmas. But my fear is that this travel, even having happened during a safer period, could be used by some as justification for risky behavior. In hindsight, and even though it violated no order, it set a bad example for which I apologize.
In a tweet, Senator Ted Cruz criticized Adler, calling him a “hypocrite” for taking the vacation: –MSN

The Simpsons’ mocking of their corrupt Mayor Quimby couldn’t have been any more accurate a parody of this story even if it were written AFTER news of this trip.

Of all the places he could have gone, he picked Mexico for a va-cay?

Hasn’t he heard?

Mexico recently became the 4th country to (officially) hit 100,000 deaths. What makes him think THAT was a safe option for travel?
