This is precisely the sort of scenario we were concerned about… an Ascendent China exploiting a distracted America led by an enfeebled presence in the White House to see just how far they can push us before America blinks.

They have every reason to believe he WILL blink, too. If past is precedent we have reason for concern, Biden has negotiated with China before, and America lost. But don’t worry, there was a silver lining: Hunter made out like a bandit. Come to think of it, that does NOT make it better. CLAIM: China Played Biden And Obama ‘Like A Stradivarius’

What’s the issue in play right now? The Phillipines, whose head of state has indicated China just made a verbal threat of war.

America’s new top diplomat closed ranks with the Philippines’s foreign secretary, Teodoro Locsin Jr., on the day that his Philippine counterpart accused Beijing of threatening a shooting conflict with the island nation. Locsin issued that condemnation in a protest of the communist regime’s thinly veiled threat that the Chinese Coast Guard’s heavily armed fleet could use lethal force against neighbors in territorial disputes — raising the likelihood of a major clash between Beijing and a U.S. ally.

“Secretary Blinken stressed the importance of the Mutual Defense Treaty for the security of both nations, and its clear application to armed attacks against the Philippine armed forces, public vessels, or aircraft in the Pacific, which includes the South China Sea,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said late Wednesday.

…That message amplifies a warning delivered by then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who clarified in 2019 that the United States would treat a Chinese attack on Philippine assets in the South China Sea as a “trigger” for American military intervention. In Blinken’s case, the timing of the statement is as important as the pledge itself.

…It was a doubly significant occasion Wednesday, as Philippine officials braced to confront Beijing’s latest move to intimidate U.S. allies in the region. Last week, Chinese Communist officials authorized the Chinese Coast Guard to use “weapons when national sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction are being illegally infringed upon.”

This policy would be a standard operating procedure for most coast guards, but China’s neighbors view it with alarm due to an intense dispute over the boundaries of Chinese territorial rights. Beijing has claimed vast swaths of the South China Sea, one of the most important waterways in the world, in defiance of an international tribunal that confirmed China, having “no legal basis” for these claims, is infringing on the Philippines’s rights under international law. –WashingtonExaminer

The current military buildup is a problem of Biden’s own making. He and Obama share the blame because elected leaders of the one country in the world that COULD have prevented China from militarizing the South China Sea refused to do so.

When it became clear that the Obama-Biden administration wouldn’t do anything serious to push back, China ramped up its island-building activities. China insisted that its land-reclamation efforts were for peaceful purposes, such as fishing and energy exploration. However, satellite images show there are runways, ports, aircraft hangars, radar and sensor equipment, and military buildings on these manmade islands.

….In 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague rejected the majority of China’s claim of the South China Sea. It also ruled that China’s island build-up was not only unlawful but also a blatant violation of the Philippines’ economic rights and that it “had caused severe environmental harm to reefs in the chain.” Beijing chose to ignore the ruling and press ahead with more island construction and militarization.

Without U.S. intervention, small countries such as the Philippines have little means to enforce the ruling and halt China’s maritime expansion in the South China Sea. Former U.S. defense secretary Ash Carter criticized the Obama-Biden administration for giving Beijing a rare strategic opening for its island-building. As the Obama administration stood by, China was able to reclaim an estimated 3,200 acres of land on seven features in the South China Sea.

The Obama-Biden administration bore the prime responsibility for not forcefully stopping China’s South China Sea expansion early on. The administration’s soft approach and wishful thinking gave China a four-year strategic window to turn the South China Sea into China’s backyard pond and the most dangerous water on this planet, a reality the rest of the world now has to live with. —NationalReview

China’s hardly been shy about wanting to become an unchallenged global superpower. They were bragging about building as many ships every year as France has in its entire navy.

There are effectively two options in front of us.

Find a way to contain them while they are a heavyweight, but one that can be dealt with, OR, wait until they are a Juggernaught and try to deal with whatever set of circumstances that might entail.

One thing we can say for sure — it won’t take too many years of endless borrowing like the kind Biden’s agenda will require before we’re too broke to say anything to Xi other than ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’.

That’s clearly part of China’s plan.

What’s ours?

Repatriating our supply lines and remaining energy independent should be key goals. But for Biden, he’s got other fish to fry.

Great big socialist agenda fish.
