With questions about the origin of the virus that unleashed Hell on the world still unanswered — Fauci’s past taxpayer funding decisions have come under scrutiny.
Fauci, the authoritarian smurf we most love to dunk on, has metastasized into the Lord Farquaad of the bureaucratic state.
Rand Paul, on the other hand, is the closest the GOP has to a full-throated libertarian. Throw in the fact that both have expertise in medical research, it should surprise exactly nobody that sparks would fly when these two meet in Congressional hearings.
You can see it in the contempt written on Fauci’s face that he loathes Paul, and resents being called to answer for his bureaucratic decisions despite the Constitutional mandate of Congress to do exactly that.
In yesterday’s exchange, the two men crossed swords over the question of Fauci funding gain-of-function research in the Wuhan lab of China… an allegation the Pevaracating Authoritarian Smurf adamantly denies.
Paul didn’t come in with half-baked accusations. He asked direct questions, including specific names of particular people, their associates, the nature of their study, and the funding mechanisms by which they received federal dollars over which Fauci himself held oversight.
Here is the setup for his question, after named doctors who were involved in the research, he goes on to describe what athey were doing, and why it matters.
[The doctors] ‘worked together to insert bat-virus spike protein into the backbone of the deadly SARS virus, and then used this man-made supervirus to infect human airway cells. Think about that for a moment. The SARS virus has a 15% mortality. We’re fighting a pandemic that has about a 1% mortality. Can you imagine if a SARS virus that has been juiced up and has had viral proteins added to it to the spike protein, if that were released accidentally?’There was a fairly tense back-and-forth, as always. Fauci was indignant and arrogant, as usual.
Various questions were raised and replied to after this lead-in.
But as for the facts themselves, and who had the high ground there? We’ll let our readers decide that for themselves.
