Squad Leader and “Democratic Socialist”, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), was in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday bringing some star power to Congressional candidate Nina Turner’s campaign. Turner was the co-chair of Bernie Sander’s 2020 presidential campaign.
Turner hopes to represent Ohio’s 11th congressional district but first has to win the Democratic Primary that will be held on August 3. Her biggest opponent in the race is local Democratic Party chairwoman Shontel Brown, a moderate. The seat was vacated in March by Marcia Fudge, who became President Biden’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
While in Ohio, AOC said that she wanted to abolish the prison system…and she was serious.
“I want to abolish our carceral system that’s designed to trap Black and Brown men,” the democratic socialist told a rally of Turner supporters in Cleveland. “I want justice. I want peace, and I want prosperity. That’s what I want.”
Ocasio-Cortez was in Cleveland for a canvassing event supporting Turner, a progressive former state senator and co-chair of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign.

No word on what she’d replace the entire carceral system with.
Have you ever noticed that all of these “defund, dismantle, and abolish” leftists don’t ever have a clear plan on what the replacement is? For example, what do you do to violent criminals if you don’t incarcerate them for their violent crimes? We’re seeing the answer in many cities run by “progressive” leaders and District Attorneys that have created a revolving door for criminals. There is no consequence for crime, so they continue to do it.
As ClashDaily reported on Monday, this sort of thing isn’t what voters want, but far-left activists continue to push it.
Meanwhile, in the wake of Thursday evening’s shooting in a trendy area of the city, D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said, “I’m gonna tell you the truth. The real issue is we have a vicious cycle of bad actors who do things, no accountability, and they end up back in [the] community.”
He added, “You cannot coddle violent criminals…They might not want a job! They might not. They may not need services. What they may require is to be off of our streets because they’re making it unsafe for us.”

He’s not wrong. Leftists just don’t want to admit that, though. They, like AOC, think it’s a tool to impose racism rather than taking criminals off of the streets.
