Democrats are big fans of performative actions to show they’re “serious” about the pandemic while lecturing everyone else to “Follow The Science.”
If recent behavior is any indication, Democrats don’t really believe the new CDC guidelines on masks.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) mandated masks are required to be worn on the House side of the Capitol building but was spotted maskless twice before noon on the day that her new rule took effect.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other far-left Democrats were at a protest in front of the Capitol Building to push for an extension of the eviction moratorium over the last few days.
Video from the event has emerged of maskless Rep. AOC at the outdoor protest sitting on the steps of the Capitol building in close proximity with lots of other protesters, many of whom were not wearing masks.
When an organizer says, “Let’s take a quick photo so we can keep the pressure up,” AOC takes out her mask, puts it on, and then removes it once the photo was taken.

Also seen in the brief video is Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) who was similarly maskless for the majority of the protest and quickly put on a surgical mask for the photo.
Despite being filmed across the previous 45 minutes without a mask, Ocasio-Cortez put a mask on as demonstrators assembled on the steps for a photo at the demonstration’s conclusion. Virtually all persons seen in attendance were maskless during the event and photo op.
Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) similarly put on a blue surgical mask for the purposes of being photographed while being unmasked during the event. Moments after the photo was taken, he pulled the mask below his chin.
Ocasio-Cortez has previously made a point to publicly highlight her wearing of a mask. In April, she recorded a video of herself with her mobile phone, beginning by removing her mask before speaking.

The protest was outdoors, and Democrats in Congress have been fully vaccinated, so, for the vast majority of the event they not wearing masks. This would have been considered to be “following the CDC guidelines” until they changed the guidance due to the threat of the “delta variant” that was based on one study of an outbreak of COVID in Cape Cod. But, remember, kiddies… it’s The New Science™ based on one study. The Brits have called B.S. on the CDC’s claim that the Delta variant spreads as quickly as Chicken Pox, so mask-up, everyone…unless you’re a Democrat. Then you can just put it on when there’s a photo being taken.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is right — this is theater.
