LINN: A Closer Look At Pelosi’s Power

Last week PBS’s Frontline aired an episode titled Pelosi’s Power, which discussed Nancy Pelosi’s political career, including her conflicts with the Trump Administration and the Capitol Riot of January 6, 2021.

One segment of the documentary involved Pelosi and her fellow Congresswomen dining with several Congressmen not long after she was elected to the House.

During a discussion on the topic of childbirth, Pelosi claims that none of the men were interested in what the women had to say. So in her view, the opinion of Congresswomen did not matter. It is unclear how much of this story is true, or if she made up the story.

Here are some other highlights from the show:

— When a reporter named James Rosen asked Pelosi at a press conference if she hated Trump during the first time she called for Trump to be impeached, she replied: “don’t mess with me.” She also stated that she does not hate anyone, putting emphasis on her Catholic upbringing. She
then told the reporter “so don’t mess with me when it comes to words like that” as she walked away.

I wonder what she would to anyone who does mess with her when it comes to words.

— In reference to the January 6 riot, Pelosi said that if she had been confronted by the mob, she would have fought them off with her stiletto heels. She also said that “I’m pretty tough. I’m a street fighter. They would have had a battle on their hands.”

First of all, the mob that stormed the Capitol was in all likelihood made up of leftists trying to make the riot look like a right-wing insurrection. Second, I doubt a stiletto would be an ideal weapon to use to fight off a mob. Third, she has her security detail (who promptly escorted her out of the Capitol during the course of the riot). Fourth, I doubt she would have been able to fight them off given her age (she was eighty at the time, and I doubt a mob would be scared of an eighty-year-old woman). I also doubt she is a street fighter. In fact, how many fights has she been in throughout her life?

— In another reference to those who participated in the January 6 riot: “I’ll never forgive them for the trauma they caused to the staff and the members.”

First, it is unclear how much trauma was caused, if any at all. Second, her statement on never forgiving them is quite un-Christian, especially when she said she doesn’t hate anyone due to her Catholic upbringing.

Needless to say, Republicans must win both houses of Congress this November, and bring an end to Pelosi’s role as Speaker of the House.
