Did you know the devil can tempt believers with holiness?

Well, with a cheap knock-off version of holiness, anyway. Only God can deliver the real deal. Only God can deliver the real deal.

It’s more of a look-at-what-a-great person I am kind of holiness.

When he was schlepping this pebble, Jesus went to war with religious leaders of his day over exactly that issue.

That doesn’t mean smug, smarmy religious folk have the market on this particular sin cornered. Of course not.

Anyone who looks down on someone else can.

This same kind of self-righteous superiority can be found among environmental activists, gym rats, or vegans. It could lurk anywhere from cocktail parties, to tailgate parties, and judges people for pretty much anything you could imagine including the car you drive, the neighborhood you live in, or what accent you speak with.

Such arrogance is divisive, corrosive, and works at cross purposes to the grace God so freely gave us.

It makes us turn our attention to our own ‘goodness’ instead of the goodness of God. And that road never takes you to a good place. And that’s just scratching the surface.

While you’re at it, here’s his latest book:

Psalms of War: Prayers That Literally Kick Ass is a collection, from the book of Psalms, regarding how David rolled in prayer. I bet you haven’t heard these read, prayed, or sung in church against our formidable enemies — and therein lies the Church’s problem. We’re not using the spiritual weapons God gave us to waylay the powers of darkness. It might be time to dust them off and offer ‘em up if you’re truly concerned about the state of Christ’s Church and of our nation.

Also included in this book, Psalms of War, are reproductions of the author’s original art from his Biblical Badass Series of oil paintings.
