Does The Unchanging God Change?

A famous Christian recently announced her sponsorship of a relative’s same-sex wedding saying God boils it all down to ‘love God, and love one another.’ Therefore, so long as love is involved, we’re clear. The central question: does God affirm same-sex relationships? One of many attending questions: does God change His mind?
In the Judeo-Christian tradition, according to the Scriptures, God is sovereign, all-powerful, all-wise, perfect in holiness, all-knowing, and eternal. Those Scriptures teach God created all things throughout the universe, imposing principles for living a healthy, righteous life. He calls human beings, as an act of love both ways, to submit to His authority and obey His precepts.
When we trust and obey Him, we are blessed. When we disregard and disobey Him, we bring curses down by our own volition. The struggle between selfish humans and eternal God has raged for at least 6,000 years. Our ideal state of being — the Garden of Eden — was destroyed by our own willfulness when our forebearers made a conscious choice to sin, knowing that all unrighteousness is sin and that intentionally disobeying God leads to the first death, and then the second death, eternal separation from the God of True Love.
A serious student of the Scriptures knows God’s attitude toward same-sex relationships. As He created them male and female, His marvelous design is clear, His intention for everyone’s highest good, abundantly clear. Moreover, in all matters sexual, God defines a narrow way, that of male/female monogamous relationship for life. Everything outside that narrow way is condemned, for everything outside that narrow way leads to destruction.
In His great love for us, He makes provision for our health and happiness, even our joy, by commanding that we obey His law and submit to His will, for that brings blessing without end.
Can these competing viewpoints coexist in the church: the scriptural view versus man’s ‘wisdom?’ Has God changed his mind from eternity past as to what He accepts and what He rejects? Can an all-seeing, all-powerful God radically shift His view on marriage and the family just to appease people who willfully disobey?
The questions boil down to this: who do you believe, who do you trust, and what is best for everyone, God’s way or man’s imagination?
