Student At Center Of Religious Freedom Fight Arrested For COMING To Class To Study

Remember how loudly the left mocked us when we invoked ‘slippery slope’ concerns about the implications of their policies on religious freedom? Where are they all now that THIS trash is happening?

We were solemnly told that it was ridiculous to believe that laws giving special protections to the rainbow-flag crowd would be in any way weaponized against or infringe upon the already-existing protections covering religious belief.

First with the same-sex-marriage question and later with questions about the meaning of gender itself, objections raised by various members of diverse religious communities were dismissed as overblown and unfounded.

Then the ‘bake the damn cake’ activists came along.

Since that time, the jackboot insistence on conformity to Secular Leftist Colonialist dogma has progressed unimpeded.

The most recent example is a sixteen-year-old Catholic student who has been criminally charged for the ‘crime’ of attending his own Catholic school.

Read that again. Slowly. It is NOT a typo. And the more you know about the details, the crazier it gets.

Josh Alexander is a sixteen-year-old student at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in a sleepy little rural town about an hour away from Canada’s capital city.

He IS a student there, meaning he has not been expelled. But he cannot ATTEND there, because he staged a protest against the Current Thing™. Since he has not been expelled, he is not free to enroll somewhere else.

The simplest way of saying it is that Josh has been found guilty of heresy and is being punished accordingly.

That is not to say he has anything bad to say about traditional Christian belief. That’s precisely the point. He believes in those pesky traditional Christian values TOO firmly. And the school is trying to nip such behavior in the bud.

It all began last November with a protest that was, importantly, not even held on school property.

Josh Alexander, a Grade 11 student at St. Joseph’s, says he organized the protest, which took place just off school property at the corner of Barnet Boulevard and First Street.
“A couple of female students complained to me about males using the female washrooms in St. Joseph’s Catholic High School,” Alexander told CTV News Ottawa.
“As a young man I feel an obligation to take action against something like that. I know there’s a lot of misinformation posted online that this is an anti-trans rally, that’s not the case. We just simply want male students removed from the female washrooms.”
…In a statement posted online Tuesday, the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board said, “It is important to note that St. Joseph’s High School has had no part in the planning of this demonstration. […] We want to make it clear that the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board strongly condemns transphobia and all forms of hate.”
…Ontario Provincial Police officer also attended the event, but did not engage with any protesters or counter-protesters.

Note how the Catholic School board went straight to the word ‘hate’, and the news story went on to elevate the fears of the trans kid of using the men’s room. In the same breath, it dismissed the fears of young female peers who have an equally emotional reaction to a masculine body sharing a space where they are in vulnerable states of undress. Furthermore, the trans kid admits there are single-stall neutral bathrooms available, but stated a preference for using the common bathroom.

This means a choice was made, and it was explicitly decided by those in authority that the emotions of the trans kid became more worthy of respect than the emotions and concerns of the young women for whom Alexander was standing up.

Defending someone who is feeling threatened is a very different motive than being motivated by ‘hate’. But the narrative has been established, and the Catholic School Board would rather defame a sixteen-year-old boy than become the villain in some activist’s hit piece accusing them of being anti-LGBTetc.

A press release from his legal defense fund tells us more:

Liberty Coalition Canada is assisting Josh Alexander, a grade 11 student at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Ontario. Josh was suspended for 20 days in late 2022 because he expressed his Christian beliefs, during class debates and on social media, that there are only two genders, that students cannot switch between genders, and that male students should not be permitted into the girls’ bathroom. The timing of this suspension also suggests retaliation for Josh organizing a student walk-out regarding the refusal of St. Joseph’s Principal, Derek Lennox, to address the concerns of a female student regarding male students accessing the girls’ washrooms.

Josh was told by the Principal he could only return to school if he agreed to not use the “dead name” of any transgender student and agreed to exclude himself from his two afternoon classes because those classes are attended by two transgender students who disapprove of Josh’s religious beliefs.

On January 6, 2023, LCC Chief Litigator James S.M. Kitchen, who is representing Josh, wrote to the Principal explaining how compelling Josh to utter falsehoods regarding gender contrary to his beliefs and segregating him from classes are repugnant manifestations of religious discrimination. The Principal responded by excluding Josh from attending St. Joseph’s altogether, claiming that “his presence in the school or classroom would be detrimental to the physical or mental well-being of the pupils”.

As the Principal’s discriminatory actions toward Josh were unlawful, Josh attended school on January 9. In response, the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board, of which St. Joseph’s is a part, issued a Trespass Notice against Josh, effective until the end of the first semester, and a second suspension.
…Josh had hoped to return to school at the start of the second semester on February 6, 2023. However, upon informing the School Board he would continue to adhere to his religious beliefs regarding Biblical sexuality and gender, the School Board responded by excluding Josh from attending St. Joseph’s for the rest of the school year.

We cannot emphasize enough that this is a CATHOLIC school board he is contending with in for the offense of committing heresy against faddish secular dogma.

Suppose he recognizes his suspension is unjust and attempts to attend class as usual. What then?

We needn’t wonder:

The high school junior tweeted that Ontario police arrested and charged him after he attempted to attend class in violation of an exclusion order following his suspension earlier this school year.
“Offense is obviously defined by the offended,” Alexander told the Epoch Times. “I expressed my religious beliefs in class and it spiraled out of control. Not everybody’s going to like that. That doesn’t make me a bully. It doesn’t mean I’m harassing anybody. They express their beliefs and I express mine. Mine obviously don’t fit the narrative.” –FoxNews

What are his beliefs, specifically? He told us himself. In his own words, he is a ‘born again Christian’.

It wasn’t that long ago that minority secularists were telling the Moral Majority not to ‘shove their religion’ down the throats of non-believers.

Now that the secularists have taken authority, they don’t just shove their irreligion down the throats of believers, they absolutely INSIST on compliance.

(Or else.)

All in the name of tolerance, of course.
