Unbelievably, GOP Discovers Spine, Ramps Up Pressure In Congress In Five Ways
Pretty sure a lot of us just lost a bet here.
The GOP base has been collectively screaming at Congress to DO SOMETHING. There are now small signs that they might be ready to put up a fight in several different areas.
We’ve seen small signs of life on the shutdown, on the SAVE AMERICA ACT, and even on some of the gotcha tricks that can be played to shine light on just how dishonest these people are being.
1) A few GOP senator have been taking on all comers in defense of the SAVE AMERICA ACT, shooting down the lies and excuses they present as objections to passing the legislation. At one point, when the left claimed that they might be supportive of the Voter ID portion of the bill, but didn’t like the other parts, Lee called their bluff.
Chuck Schumer and other Democrats have insisted that they actually support Voter ID—they just object to other parts of the SAVE America Act.

Dems could have let that pass, and all of the accusations that they want bogus ballots in the system would have been seriously blunted.
…Aaaaaaand they blocked it.
2) The House, who already did their own homework and (like us) are waiting for their senate counterparts to dooooooo something have been advancing to the House exactly the kind of ‘commonsense bills’ that Dems claim to support. The vote totals tell a damning story about the true face of the Democrats.
In light of news stories in the past year with foreigners attacking working dogs that keep our nation safe, like the dope from Egypt who saw a K9 sniffing his luggage and kicked him. You’d think the ‘BOW-WOW’ law calling for the automatic deportation of any non-American attacking an animal working as a government agent would be a no-brainer.
BREAKING: The House voted 228–190 to pass the BOWOW Act, legislation that allows for the deportation of non-citizens who harm law enforcement animals.
All 190 votes against the bill came from Democrats.

3) Still in the House, they got Dems to show their butts on another issue, this one even more damning in light of that moment in the SOTU where Trump called on Dems to stand if they believed their job was to put the American citizen ahead of illegal aliens, their actual policy votes prove it. How many times did Schumer & Co. scream and shout that conservatives claiming that NO illegals were receiving welfare, contrary to US law?
If any of that was true, there wouldn’t be the slightest moment of hesitation in passing a bill that deports any non-citizen illegally gaming the system, right?

Miller, as ususal, puts the vote in devastating perspective.
4) Thune, who has been a source of frustration for all the things he doesn’t do, is finally moving the needle on Shutdown Negotiations. If we’re seeing mass resignations and brutal wait times in airports for no reason other than Dem senators pitching a fit and refusing to fund Homeland Security — while we’ve seen at least four terror attacks against Americans since the current shutdown started, maybe — just maybe — the Dems who have described themselves as ‘serene’ in the midst of the chaos should feel a pinch themselves.
If we don’t have a resolution before week’s end, session stays open. Even on weekends. Even through Easter break. That’s Thune’s new position on shutdowns. Whether the threat holds up we won’t know until the weekend.
5) And Senator Bernie Marino dared Dems to put their own skin in the game:

And a few other stories are coming together.
Is it as fast as we’d like? It never is.
But maybe we’ll finally break some of the inertia that has kept our side from getting anything done since…? Well, let’s go with ‘in living memory’ anyway.
