Peter’s First Sermon is Wild! (Acts 2:14-21)

Doug Giles. Recorded live at Liberty Faith Fellowship, in Wimberley Texas

According to Church planting ‘experts’ today — God did EVERTHING wrong when he kick-started His Church.

The leaders He picked? The wild weirdness of Pentecost? That first Sermon he gave when the crowds assumed everyone in the Church had been day-drinking the hard stuff?

And are we all going to gloss over the fact that Peter tried to lop off Malchaeus’s head when Jesus was arrested in the garden? Sure, he only took off his ear, but do you really think Peter — THAT Peter — was going for anything LESS than the kill?

None of God’s choices for the Big Launch of his Redemption Of Mankind Project made sense in the least.

Then along came Pentecost, where God made good on His promise to equip them for the work of building His Church… in dramatic fashion.

Here’s how it all went down, and why it’s a MASSIVE infusion of hope for the rest of us in the here and now.

And if you want a sneak peek on a later chapter in Acts where the Holy Spirt has to hit him hard with the truth about bringing the gospel beyond the Jewish audience Peter was comfortable with? That chapter features prominently in a book Doug wrote on what the Bible says about hunting.

The Bible And Hunting

If a person looked to Scripture and paid particular attention to the passages within the Bible that address the topic of hunting, then they’d walk away thinking not only is hunting animals tolerated but it is endorsed by God. And that’s exactly what this little book is about: proving that God, from Genesis to Revelation, is extremely cool with hunters and hunting. I’ll go out on a biblical limb and claim right off the bat that you cannot show me, through the balance of the Bible, that the God of the Scripture is against the responsible killing and the grilling of the animals He created. ~Doug Giles
