Every so often we get one of those stories that tells us more about the person watching it than about the people involved.
It’s an ideological Rorschach Test.

The video that follows was filmed in NYC. Two officers had been responding to a call of some sort and as they were leaving got absolutely drenched to the skin with water. They were hosed down, and even a bucket was dumped over their heads.
Here’s the clip:
First, some optimists looked at it and were convinced it was one of those community-building cops-being-good-sports incidents, like when police get called to an overblown ‘noise disturbance’ and start dancing to the music. You hear quotes like “It was 100 degrees, out there, it was probably the best part of their day.”
Second, some jaded cop-haters saw it as absolute contempt, for the police and LOVED it, convinced that all cops are horrible people and deserve 24/7 contempt, ridicule and hatred. They were openly mocked by those people and all lumped in with the few corrupted or criminal cops who misuse their authority and disgrace their badge.
Lastly, others saw what we saw. The very people who get called every day to meet people on their worst day, to be the ‘thin blue line’ protecting the rest of us from the seediest and most vicious riff-raff in society, who have been at times assassinated by strangers for no other reason than wearing the blue having insult added to injury.

But who do you think these same people would call if a young woman in their life was getting beat up by a boyfriend, or valuable property was stolen? You guessed it, these same police officers.
It’s one thing to respect the level of restraint it takes not to retaliate, it’s quite another to realize why they reacted so little to people who are throwing things at cops, dousing them with water, and interfering with police business in the first place.
Who’s gonna back them up if they DO anything about it? Will the mayor? Or will they be thrown into the media meat grinder as ‘anther example’ of ‘evil’ cops?
It’s already a tough job. Even tougher when they have to put up with abuse like that.
Rudy Giuliani pointed the finger squarely at New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio after videos surfaced Monday of people attacking NYPD officers by dousing them with water, saying this “would never happen in a million years when I was mayor of New York City.”
…“This is what happens with knee-jerk disrespect for police. It will only get worse until these Left wing idiots are defeated,” Giuliani tweeted Tuesday morning, saying the current “disrespect for the uniform” is the “result of a Democrat-Progressive (Retrogressive)-Socialist Mayor.”
…New York City Police Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch also called out the city’s leadership after the videos went viral.
“Our anti-cop lawmakers have gotten their wish: the NYPD is now frozen. It’s not the fault of these police officers. It’s the end result of the torrent of bad policies and anti-police rhetoric that has been streaming out of City Hall and Albany for years now,” Lynch said in a statement, adding, “Disorder controls the streets, and our elected leaders refuse to allow us to take them back.”
In one of the videos, someone could be seen throwing a bucket at an officer, hitting him in the head as he appeared to be in the middle of an arrest.

The NYPD has taken three men, including a reputed Crips gang member, into custody for the caught-on-video dousing of water of cops in Harlem and Brooklyn, law enforcement sources told The Post Wednesday.
Gangbanger Courtney Thompson, 28, was busted after he surrendered Wednesday morning for his involvement in the Brownsville water drenching incident at the 73rd Precinct stationhouse, sources said. — Source: NYPost
