CUOMO: Trump ‘Better Have An Army To Protect Him’ If He Comes To NYC

Oh look, the nursing home butcher is talking tough against Trump. This couldn’t be an exercise in ‘deflection’ could it?

Remember when Governor Cuomo who went on record on the Howard Stern show to say that Trump was a stand-up guy for giving New York the Federal resources he needed? We do. Here’s what he said in April:

“He has delivered for New York. He has,” Cuomo said of Trump, in response to a question from Stern about whether the president has really done anything of consequence to help.

“By and large it has worked,” Cuomo said of the relationship.

…He also, surprisingly, noted the president has even had a kind word for his brother Chris Cuomo – the CNN anchor who has himself been battling COVID-19. Stern asked the governor if he thought Trump was secretly pleased to see his brother get sick – and the governor firmly denied it.

“The president always makes a point of saying to me ‘How is Chris, is he doing OK,’ and that’s not in his usual character, we’re not chit-chatty on the phone,” he told Stern. —NBCNY

That was then. Here’s what is the ‘Love Gov’ is saying now that…

(a) He’s in the hot seat over cramming Chinavirus positive patients into nursing homes;
(b) He’s pitching a book casting himself as New York’s hero during the pandemic’
(c) New York is in a world from the Pandemic response, BLM/Antifa riots, crime wave, NYPD cutbacks, and a mass public exodus’
(d) Trump is seeking reelection when Cuomo would rather see a Democrat in office.

It might have had something to do with Cuomo being pissed about Trump dropping the hammer on cities or states that are openly refusing to protect their citizens from rioters — to say nothing of the problem of ‘sanctuary states’ not cooperating with law enforcement.

Cuomo called an emergency press briefing within a half hour on Wednesday night to tear into Trump for the order, which cites New York’s rising murder rate and defunding of the NYPD.

“He better have an army if he thinks he’s gonna walk down the street in New York. New Yorkers don’t want to have anything to do with him,” the Democrat said, all but threatening the commander in chief.

But Cuomo, who like Trump hails from Queens, wasn’t done. “He can’t have enough bodyguards to walk through New York City, people don’t want to have anything to do with him.”

On substance, Cuomo said he doubted the legality of Trump’s five-page memo ordering a review of federal funds that can be redirected from New York City, Portland, Seattle and Washington, DC.

Huh. Sounds vaguely like a threat now, doesn’t it?

He must have realized how it sounds when he walked it back.

“My comment about the president and bodyguards in New York City, all I’m saying is that he is persona non grata in New York City. And I think he knows that. And he’ll never come back to New York, because New Yorkers will never forget how gratuitously mean he has been to New Yorkers and how many times he’s tried to kill the city that gave him his start and birthed him. That’s what I meant about the bodyguards.”

Earlier Wednesday, Trump called on CNN to fire Cuomo’s younger brother Chris Cuomo over a leaked tape in which he says he was questioned about sexual misconduct. “Fredo must go!” Trump wrote, using an insulting reference from “The Godfather.” —NYPost

Whoops.

Let’s be honest.

Cuomo is looking like a dope.

When the SALT exemptions dried up, he was no longer able to force Red States to indirectly bankroll his bloated budgets with State and Local ‘tax reductions’.

His budget had a huge hole in it BEFORE COVID.

His handling of the lockdowns and the riots have only magnified that problem.

Watching Macy’s flagship store in Herald square being looted in real-time might have had something to do with that problem.

But hey, let’s all blame Trump for local leadership failures.

Everyone else does.
