They took matters into their own hands — and it was illegal.
At a press conference, 22-year old Takiya Thompson, the woman that took down the statue in Durham said, ‘The people decided to take matters into our own hands and remove the statue. We are tired of waiting on politicians who could have voted to remove the white supremacist statues years ago, but they failed to act. So we acted.‘

Note that the crowd after shouting ‘We are the Revolution‘ also shouts ‘No Cops, No KKK, No Fascist USA‘ as they unilaterally purge the US of its history — like fascists. Or maybe ISIS and the Taliban.

So, as you can see, she’s totally sold on the anti-cop, all-white-people-are-evil B.S. She’s fine to broad-brush those groups as racist, but I’m sure she’d be quick to say ‘Not all Muslims’.
She had to act and her group pulled down that statue because they believed it was morally right to do so.
She had no right.
Just like you can’t Impeach the President because he’s not a Democrat.
Takiya Thompson, 22, has been charged with disorderly conduct by injury to a statue, damage to real property, participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 — and inciting others to riot where there is property damage in excess of $1,500, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
The last two offenses are Class H and Class F felonies, carrying a sentence of up to 25 months and 41 months behind bars, respectively.
Who is Takiya Thompson?
Well, she’s a far-left activist, a member of the (I swear I’m not making this up) literally communist Workers World Party and a student at N.C. Central University.
There are many sides to the keeping or removing of Confederate memorials and statues.
This ClashDaily Editor agrees with Condoleeza Rice on the memorials, but you may have a different view:
Some have suggested removing them from public spaces and ‘contextualizing’ them in a museum exhibit. Others have said that we should add another monument beside them — one that shows our progress on equality, like a statue of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; still others want them completely removed as they are monuments to an army that rebelled against the government — an act that was treasonous.
One thing that I think we can all agree on is that activists shouldn’t be tearing them down on their own because they don’t like them.
That’s not how we do things in the United States of America.
So, what should the consequence be?

If the police had stepped in earlier, this wouldn’t have happened at all.
But here we are.
Durham County Sheriff Michael D. Andrews went on the record.
“As the Sheriff, I am not blind to the offensive conduct of some demonstrators nor will I ignore their criminal conduct,” Andrews said. “With the help of video captured at the scene, my investigators are working to identify those responsible for the removal and vandalism of the statue.”
Andrews added, “My deputies showed great restraint and respect for the constitutional rights of the group expressing their anger and disgust for recent events in our country. Racism and incivility have no place in our country or Durham. I am asking both city and county leaders to establish guidelines and safe spaces for protesters to prevent demonstrations from becoming disruptive and as we witnessed in Charlottesville, dangerous.”
